、comma is used as the decimal marker. National foreword This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 213 “Dimensional and geometrical product specifications and verification”, Working Group WG 6 “General requirements for geometrical product specification (GPS) measuring equipment” (S
、ecretariat: ANSI, USA) in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 290 “Dimensional and geometrical product specification and verification” (Secretariat: AFNOR, France). The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Technische Grundlagen (Fundamentals in Techno
、logy Standards Committee), Working Committee NA 152-03-02-07 UA Eindimensio-nale Lngenprftechnik. This standard is a general GPS standard drawn up on the “operator principle” and defines the most important design and metrological characteristics of callipers. The metrological characteristics serve a
、s the basis for calculating the uncertainty of measurements carried out with a calliper. At the ISO/TC 213/WG 6 meeting in San Diego on 12 January 1997 it was agreed that all future GPS standards would be drawn up on the “operator principle”, that is, the numerical values for limits of metrological
、characteristics will no longer be specified in a standard; Germany was against this resolution. The manufacturer will now have to give values for the characteristics required by the relevant standard. This decision is a result of the fact that after years of discussion, ISO/TC 3/WG 11 was not able t
、o come to agreement on the limit values for permissible errors of “classical” length-measuring devices. The present version of this standard is a result of the above-mentioned resolution. To ensure German industry continues to have access to the limit values for metrological characteristics, a new e
、dition of DIN 862 has been published, which contains only the above-mentioned limit values. National Annex NB describes the difference between the previous practice in Germany and that specified in the current standard, taking into consideration DIN EN ISO 14253-1. In 1992, CEN/TC 290 “Dimensional a
、nd geometrical product specification and verification” had already decided not to publish its own standards, but rather strongly recommended that its members be actively involved in drawing up the relevant GPS standards at ISO so that the ISO Standards could be adopted, unchanged, as European Standa

The user proves non-conformance with the specification, according to DIN EN ISO 14253-1, when the measurement result lies in the non-conformance zone (see Figure NB.1).
