1、 INCH POUND A-A-50369A September 6, 2000 A-A-50369 March 1, 1989 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION CAP, KNIT (WATCH) The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all Federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers the requirements f

2、or a Cap, Knit (Watch) used by Navy personnel in cold environments. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The cap shall be one type and size only. 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Description. The watch cap shall be bell shaped, pull on style. The color shall be Blue Shade 3346. The crown shall be shaped of four (4) or

3、 six (6) equal sections joined together by darts of approximately equal lengths. Each finished dart shall extend from the top center of crown to nor less than 1/4 inch from beginning of body stitching. The cap shall be either a simulated two ply construction, or single ply construction. Each cap sha

4、ll be steam blocked. 3.2 MATERIAL. 3.2.1 Basic material. The 2 ply knitted yarn of the watch cap shall be made of 100% wool fleece or pulled sheeps wool, or a combination of both, not lower in grade than 54s US Standard. The wool shall be free of reprocessed, reused, or waste wool. The wool shall be

5、 mothproofed. The finished weight of each knit watch cap shall be not less than 3 ounces. The finished component sections of the watch cap shall conform to the physical requirements in Table I. 9、h ASTM D1776 and weighed on a calibrated balance. Weight requirements is + 1/4 ounce. 2/ The wool, in scoured form, shall be visually examined for grade prior to picking, carding, and dyeing by comparison with the capable US Standard. In the event of a dispute, the wool grade shall be determined by

10、a with (wedge) method approved by the Government. The examination for grade shall be performed on a composite sample of 1 pound for each 10,000 pounds or fraction thereof in the lot. The lot shall be unacceptable if the sample does not conform to wool grade requirements specified in this document. 3

11、/ Test perspiration for acid and alkaline. 4/ Mothproofing agent. The cloth shall be given a commercially available mothproofing treatment and shall show no toxicity when tested using method below: a) Title 40, Code of Federal Regulation, 1994 Edition; Section 798.4100 Dermal Sensitization Section 7

14、e stitch type for the body shall be half or full cardigan, with the crown a 1x 1 rib (see figure 1). If a single ply construction is used, the body shall be half or full cardigan, with the crown and bottom a 1x 1 rib, with the bottom having a non-raveling edge (see Figure2). TABLE II. The color of the test specimen shall match the standard sample when viewed under filtered tungsten lamps that approximate artificial daylight, and that have a correlated color temperature of 7500K (+/- 200K), with illumination of 100 (+/- 20) foot candles, a

17、nd shall be a good match to the standard sample under incandescent lamplight at 2300K (+/- 200K). The color shall be Blue 3346 and shall match the standard sample. 3.2.4 Thread. The thread for seaming and stitching the watch cap shall be cotton conforming to Type III, Ticket Number A of A-A-52094. A

18、s an alternate, Type I, Ticket Number 70 of A-A-50199 may be used. 3.2.5 Cover thread. A two (2) ply worsted yarn shall be used as cover thread. 3.3 Labels. Each cap shall have a combination identification and instruction label with characters a minimum of 18-points (approximately 1/4 inch) and the

19、print shall be black showing fastness to laundering only when tested in accordance with AATCC 61, Test 3A. The label shall be caught in the stitching of the crown. Each

21、item shall be individually bar-coded with a paper tag for personal clothing items. The paper tag shall be standard bleached sulfate having a basis weight of 100 pounds. The paper used for the tags shall have a smooth finish to accept thermal transfer and direct printing. The tags shall have a hole a

22、nd shall be attached to each item by a fastener, clearly legible and readable by a scanner. The bar coding element shall be a 13 digit national stock number (NSN). There shall be a 12 digit UPC number assigned for all NSNs by the procuring agency. The initials UPC must appear beneath the code. The b

23、ar code for NSN and UPC type shall be a medium to high code density and shall be located so that it is completely visible on the item when it is folded and/or packaged as specified and so that it causes no damage to the item. The UPC code must also be placed on all shipping cartons on which the NSN

24、appears. 3.4 Measurements. The finished measurements of the cap shall conform to Table II. All measurements and tolerance are expressed in inches, and shall be taken without pulling or stretching the cap. TABLE III. 28、gthwise so as to lie flat. (D) Measurement shall be taken across the bottom open edge of cap. 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. 4.1 Flammability requirements. The basic material shall conform to the rules and regulations of the Flammability Fabrics Act without the application of a flame retardant finish t

29、o material or the end item. 4.2 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered or environmentally referable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promote

30、s economically advantageous life cycle costs. 5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS 5.1 Product conformance. The products offered shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices,

31、 and be the same product that is offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Visual examination. Each cap shall be examined for the defects listed below. 5.2.1 Defects. Any hole, cut, tear, needle chew; any mend, darn noticea

32、ble, uneven knitting, loose yarn; missing yarn or broken yarn, dropped stitch. Lint and /or foreign matter not removed. Wales courses per inch not as specified, thin place, shaded parts, run, loops in row vary in size causing row to appear uneven, uniform, and /or skewed, heavy yarn, knot, miss-knit

33、, loose course, yarn variation, weak spot, drop ply, float, thin yarn, thick yarn. Cap not steam blocked. Any section of crown visibly off center. Any section of crown visibly uneven. Color not as specified. Any spot or stain clearly noticeable. Raw edges, open seams, thread ends not trimmed, loose
