2、79B 19 March 2009 SUPERSEDING A-A-52079A 30 June 1993 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION MANTLE, ILLUMINATING (GASOLINE LANTERN) The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers o
3、ne type of mantle for fuel burning lanterns. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Design. The mantel shall be commercial, knitted, soft-type. When the mantle is laid flat its dimensions shall approximate 2.87 inches long by 2.25 inches wide with a tolerance of 0.25 inches. 2.2 Mantle. The mantle shall be
4、made from a chemically treated seamless knitted rayon tubing. The closed end of the mantle shall be formed by gathering or pleating the tube and sewing with chemically treated cotton thread. The resulting bag shall be turned so that the end is on the inside. The top section of the mantle shall be tr
5、eated with a chemical solution or material selection to provide hardness and increase the strength and abrasion resistance of this section of the mantle after ignition. Approximately half of this treated band shall be turned in, to form a double thickness. A drawstring shall be threaded around and t
6、hrough the top or head hardened section of the mantle for fastening the mantle to the mantle holder of the lantern. 2.2.1 Seamless knitted tubing. The seamless knitted tubing shall be knit from 150 denier, 42 filament, bright rayon yarn (or equal) using duplex weave. 2.2.2 Instructions. Mantle insta

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximu
8、m extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this CID, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards
9、, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 4.2 Bid sample. Ten mantles shall be submitted for bid sample testing. 4.2.1 Bid sample performance test. Two mantles sha
10、ll be installed and prepared in a commercial lantern according to mantle manufacturers instructions prior to lantern operation. The lantern shall then be lit per the manufactures instructions. The lantern shall be operated for 30 minutes, turned off, and allowed to cool for 30 minutes. This operatio
11、n shall be repeated five times. The other mantle shall be installed and ignited (in pairs of two) in the same manner except they will be ignited only one time. All mantles shall be examined for broken threads and holes. The first set of mantles will be tested for light output. The light output shall
12、 be a minimum of 150 candle power. 4.3 Metric product. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in FED-STD-376, “Preferred Metric Un
13、its for General Use by the Federal Government“, and all other requirements of this CID are met. If a product is manufactured to a metric dimension and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the pro
14、duct is acceptable. The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product. 4.4 Market acceptability. The product offered must have been previously sold either to the government or on the commercial market. 5. PACKAGING 5.1 Preservation, packing, and marking. Preservation, pack
15、ing, and marking shall be as specified in the acquisition order (see 6.3(b). 6. NOTES 6.1 Intended use. The mantle is intended for use with a single or double mantle fuel burning lantern.
