SCOPE. Th
2、is commercial item description covers generic wood and wood based panel products. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The panels shall be of the following types (see notes for typical uses of these panels): 2.1 Type A Construction and industrial plywood: Conventional plywood (laminated wood veneers) manufactured in
3、accordance with U.S. product standard PS 1, Construction and Industrial Plywood (see notes). 2.2 Type B Structural use panels: Panels manufactured in accordance with U.S. product standard PS 2, Performance Standard for Wood-Based Structural-Use Panels; Timber Engineering Company (TECO) PRP-133, Perf
4、ormance Standard and Policies for Structural-Use Panels (see notes). 2.3 Type C Hardwood and decorative plywood manufactured in accordance with Hardwood Plywood and Veneer Association (HPVA) product standard HPVA HP-1, Standard for Hardwood and Decorative Plywood (see notes). SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Description. Panels covered by this commercial item description shall conform to
7、the requirements of the applicable product standards as specified for Type A, Type B, or Type C panels. 3.2 Species. The species, species group, number of plies, sanding, exposure capability, span rating, core construction, grade, dimensions, and quantity as applicable shall be as specified and in a
8、ccordance with the applicable product standard (see notes). 3.3 Preservative or fire-treated panels. Preservative or fire-retardant treated panels shall be treated in accordance with the requirements of the American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) standard T1 or MIL-L-19140 as specified (see note
9、s). 3.4 Panel marking and/or certification. All panels shall be marked and/or certified as required by the applicable standard. 3.5 Workmanship. Panel shall have no defects which affect its use, appearance, or serviceability. 3.6 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be co
10、nsidered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of ASTM SI 10, and all other requirements of this commercial item description are met. If a product is manufactured to me
11、tric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable. 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum exte
12、nt practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE. 5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, s
13、tandards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 6. PACKAGING. Preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order. 7. NOTES. 7.1 Typical
14、 uses: 7.1.1 Type A Conventional laminated veneer panels have many uses including furniture, concrete forms, boats, containers, flooring, siding, sheathing, and general construction. Care should be taken by the ordering activity to specify plywood grades commensurate with their intended end-use. 7.1
15、.2 Type B - Panels are primarily intended for such uses as subflooring, roof/wall sheathing, and siding. Panels may also be suitable for use as containers. They may be made from wood veneers (not necessarily in accordance with PS 1) or reconstituted wood, e.g., oriented strand board (OSB) and may ge
16、nerally be substituted for Type A panels for these uses often at a lower price (see ordering data). 7.1.3 Type C Panels are primarily intended for use as decorative wall panels or stock panels for furniture. Purchaser should specify, as applicable, the species, species group, number of plies, sanding, exposure capability
18、 (e.g., interior or exterior), span rating, core construction, preservative treatment, grade, dimensions, and quantity of panels. c. When ordering Type A panels, and it has been determined that equivalent Type B panels may be substituted, it will be so stated in the contract or order. d. When orderi
19、ng preservative or fire-retardant treated panels, the type of preservative, use conditions, and type (interior or exterior) fire-retardant will be specified (see salient characteristic). Care should be taken to ensure that panels are of a type/grade compatible with desired treatment. e. Packaging re
