SCOPE. This commercial item description

2、 covers the requirements for one type and size hammock. The hammock is intended for use as sleeping equipment in jungle areas to afford the user protection from rain and insects. By running poles through the pole sleeves an improvised litter can be formed for transporting incapacitated personnel. 2.

3、 SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 General description. The hammock shall consist of a 85 by 34 (2 1) inch sleeping panel with 74 by 4-5/8 inch pole sleeves along each side; a 85-1/4 by 46 (2 i) inch top canopy of coated fabric with stretch cord loops at each end; head and foot panels of same material as

4、the sleeping panel; insect netting with approximately a 29 inch by 57 inch width side panel and approximately a 20 inch by 74 inch top panel; and tie cords for attaching spreader sticks (See Figure 1). The net side panels are fastened to the head and sleeping panel by a nylon hook and pile fastener

5、tape. Bridle lines and cords are attached at each end for suspending the hammock. 2.2 Materials 2.2.1 Cloth, nylon. The nylon cloth shall be a plain weave, with a weight of 3.8 (minimum) to 4.8 (maximum) ounces per square yard and a minimum yarns per inch of 80 in the warp and 56 in the filling. The

9、ified according to the following test methods: ASTM-D 3776 (Option C) for weight; ASTM-D 3775 for yarns per inch; ASTM-D 5034 (Grab method) for breaking strength; 5614 of FED- STD-191 - Textile Test Methods for colorfastness to laundering; and 5671 of FED-STD-191 for colorfastness to accelerated wea

10、thering. 2.2.2 Cloth, nettinq. The cloth for the netting shall be nylon or polyester netting. The yarn for the nylon cloth shall be 70 denier, bright or semi-dull multifilament nylon with sufficient twist, with a maximum weight of 1.6 ounces per square yard. The cloth shall have a minimum of 54 yarn

11、s per inch in the warp and a maximum of 56 yarns per inch in the filling, and a breaking strength of 50 pounds minimum in the warp and filling directions. The cloth shall be woven with three picks of plain and one pick of leno. polyester netting shall be 70 denier, semi-dull, regular tenacity, multi

12、filament polyester with sufficient twist, with a maximum weight of 2.0 ounces per square yard, and a minimum breaking strength of 50 pounds in the length and width. utilizing the pillar inlay principal to form a rectangular shaped mesh. The color of the finished cloth or netting shall be Camouflage

13、Green 483 and shall show good colorfastness to laundering and accelerated weathering. The cloth shall be tested as specified according to the following test methods: ASTM-D 3776 (Option C) for weight; ASTM-D 3775 for yarns per inch; ASTM-D 5034 (Grab method) for breaking strength; 5614 of FED-STD-19

14、1 - Textile Test Methods for colorfastness to laundering; and 5671 of FED-STD-191 for colorfastness to accelerated weathering. The yarn for the warp knitted The netting shall be of the mesh type 2.2.3 Cloth, coated, nylon. The base cloth for the coated cloth shall be a rip-stop weave nylon cloth, po

15、lyurethane coated (one side only) and weigh 2.5 (minimum) to 3.25 (maximum) ounces per square yard. The cloth shall have a minimum breaking strength of 50 pounds in the warp and filling, and a minimum tearing strength of 700 pounds in the warp and 900 pounds per square yard in the filling. coating a

20、o the following test methods: ASTM-D 1907 for yards per pound; ASTM-D 2256 (Single strand method) for breaking strength and for colorfastness to laundering. 1 elongation; and test method 5610 of FED-STD-191 - Textile Test Methods I 2.2.5 Cord, polyester. The cord for the bridle lines, combination ne

21、t suspension and tie lines, and canopy suspension lines shall be a solid braided polyester, 3/32 inch diameter with a minimum breaking strength of 205 pounds and 25% maximum elongation at 205 pound load. The cord for the sleeping panel suspension lines shall be 1/4 inch diameter, with a minimum brea

22、king strength of 1200 pounds and 20% maximum elongation at 1200 pound load. The color of the cord shall be Camouflage Green 483 and shall show good colorfastness to weathering The cord shall be tested as specified according to the following test methods: 6016 of FED-STD-191 - Textile Test Methods fo

23、r breaking strength and elongation; and 5671 of FED-STD-191 for colorfastness to accelerated weathering. All cut ends of cords shall be fused prior to assembly. 2.2.6 Cord, elastic, braided nylon. The elastic cord shall be 3/16 inch diameter and made of a heat resistant compound of natural or synthe

24、tic rubber or a combination of both. The cord shall have a minimum weight of 35 ounces per linear yard. The color shall be Camouflage Green 483 and shall show good fastness to laundering, crocking and weathering. The cord shall be tested as specified according to the following test methods: ASTM-D 3

25、776 (Option C) for I weight; 5614 of FED-STD-191 - Textile Test Methods for colorfastness to laundering; AATCC-8 for colorfastness to crocking; and 5671 of FED-STD-191 for colorfastness to accelerated weathering. 2.2.7 Webbing, nylon. The webbing shall be nylon, 3/4 inch wide, 0.025 inches thick wit

26、h a maximum weight of 0.32 ounces per linear yard, and a minimum breaking strength of 600 pounds The color of the finished webbing shall be Camouflage Green 483 and shall show a minimum rating of good fastness to light, laundering and crocking. The webbing shall be tested as specified according to t

27、he following test methods: ASTM-D 3776 (Option C) for weight; 4108 of FED-STD-191 - Textile Test Methods for breaking strength; 5660 of FED-STD-191 colorfastness to light; 5614 of FED-STD-191 - colorfastness to laundering; and 5651 of FED-STD-191 - colorfastness to crocking. 28、bbing shall be fused prior to assembly. 2.2.8 Lace, nylon. The nylon yarn for braiding the laces shall be spun from nylon staple, twisted into a 2-ply yarn, tubular braided using a two over and two under braiding without a core. The lace shall have a width of 10/32 and 5630 of FED-STD-191 for colorf

The tape shall be fabricated o

30、f synthetic nylon yard, with a minimum weight of 3.5 grams per linear yard and a minimum breaking strength of 105 pounds when tested as specified according to ASTM-D 3776 (Option C) for weight and ASTM-D 5034 (Grab method) for breaking strength. The hook (216 hooks per linear inch minimum) and loop

31、pile (52 picks per inch minimum) tapes shall be of woven, warp pile, narrow fabric construction. The hook and pile tape shall have multifilament ground ends (including selvages) and picks, leno woven, 5/8 inches in width. 2.2.10 Grommet, metallic. The grommets shall be a rolled rim grommet, plain wi

32、th spur washer, size O. 2.2.11 Plate, suspension. The equi-sided triangular shaped suspension plate shall be approximately 3 inches in length and 1/8 (0.125) inches thick. The plate shall have five equally spaced 0.205 inch diameter holes, 1/2 inch apart and 1/4 inch from the bottom with a single 0.

33、358 inch diameter hole, 5/84 inches from the top (See NCTRF Drawing 16-1-84, Plate Suspension (See 6.1). 2.2.12 Kit, Maintenance. The kit shall consist of an instruction sheet and ten patches (6 by 2 inches with rounded corners) made of pressure sensitive adhesive electrical tape and covered on the

34、adhesive side with release paper centrally slit, in a clear untinted polyethylene envelope, with the inside dimensions sufficient to accommodate the ten patches and provide a folded-over end approximately one inch long. The patches and instruction sheet shall be placed in the envelope so that the in

35、structions are readable through the polyethylene envelope. The color of the patches shall be Camouflage Green 483. The kit shall be supplied with each hammock. The instruction sheet shall have the following legend printed thereon: To seal leaks in canopy and to repair rips and tears in canopy, hammo

36、ck or netting: Remove release paper from patch and apply patch by hand pressure to damaged area. Overlap patches for longer tears. Apply patch to coated (outer) side of canopy. NOTE: The instruction sheet shall have the name of the manufacturer and month and year of manufacture printed at the bottom

37、. 2.2.13 Label/taq. Each hammock shall have an identification label and instruction tag. The instruction tag shall be approximately 5-1/4 inches by 4 inches and made of paper stock with a finished surface not calendered or pigmented to a degree that would cause the obliteration of printed, stamped o

38、r typed marking. The tying cord shall be cotton string doubled to 8 inches long and the tag shall have a reinforced I eyelet for attaching the cord. Each hammock shall be individually bar-coded with a paper tag for personal clothing items. The paper tag shall be standard bleached sulfate having a ba

39、sis weight of 100 1 pounds. The paper used for the tags shall have a smooth finish to accept thermal transfer and direct printing.
