1、INCH-POUNDA-A-55303October 23, 1996COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTIONWASHCLOTH, TERRY, COTTON AND COTTON/POLYESTER BLENDThe General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial itemdescription as a replacement for DDD-W-80 for all Federal agencies.1. SCOPE. This document covers the req
2、uirements for three types of cotton andcotton/polyester blend washcloths intended for use by Federal agencies and the Department ofDefense.2. CLASSIFICATION. The washcloths shall be in the following types:Type I - 16 ounces per dozenType II - 11 ounces per dozenType III - 16 ounces per dozen3. SALIE
3、NT CHARACTERISTICS. The finished dimensions of the washcloths shall be 12inches by 12 inches, plus or minus 1/2 inch. The finished washcloths shall conform to thephysical requirements specified in Table I when tested. The type I and III washcloths shallconsist of ground warp, pile warp, and filling
4、yarns woven as a single-loop terry weaveexclusive of a border. As alternates, the type I and III washcloths shall have a plain-wovenborder, 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide, either on both sides and both ends or on both ends only. Theborder shall be located not more than 1 inch from the ends and sides or from t
5、he ends only,whichever is applicable. The type II washcloth shall consist of ground warp, pile warp, andfilling yarns woven as a single-loop terry weave. The border shall be on both sides and bothends or on both ends only. The border measurement, from the edge towards the body, shallbe in this order
6、: 3/8 to 5/8 inch plain weave, 1/8 to 3/8 inch terry, 1/16 to 3/16 inch plainweave, 1/8 to 3/8 inch terry, 1/16 to 3/16 inch plain weave, terry body. The thread forstitching shall be cotton, ticket number 30, 3-ply of A-A-52094. All four edges shall beoveredge-stitched with 10 to 14 stitches per inc
7、h of stitch type 504 or 505 and stitching typeEFd-1 as specified in FED-STD-751. All ends of stitching, thread breaks, and skipped andrunoff stitches shall be overstitched 3/4 to 1 inch. The finished washcloth shall be free ofloose or untrimmed threads. The washcloths shall be desized and bleached w

Testing shall be in accordance with ASTM D3776 opt. C except that samplesshall be conditioned as d
12、irected in ASTM D1776 “Practice for Conditioning Textiles forTesting“ prior to testing.3.2 Yarns per inch. Testing shall be in accordance with ASTM D3775 except that eight warpand eight filling samples shall be tested.3.2.1 Type I. There shall be a minimum of 68 warp and 35 filling yarns per inch. E
13、ither ofthese values may fall below this minimum by not more than three yarns, provided thecombined warp and filling yarn total does not fall below 100 yarns per inch. The groundwarp and filling yarns shall be either 100 percent cotton or polyester/cotton which maycontain up to 70% polyester with th
14、e remaining percentage cotton.3.2.2 Type II. There shall be a minimum of 59 warp and 29 filling yarns per inch. Theground warp and filling yarns shall be either 100 percent cotton or polyester/cotton whichmay contain up to 70% polyester with the remaining percentage cotton.3.2.3 Type III. There shal
15、l be a minimum of 70 warp and 36 filling yarns per inch. Theground warp and filling yarns shall be 100% cotton or polyester/cotton which shall contain upto 14% polyester with the remaining percentage cotton.3.3 Weave. A visual determination shall be made. One determination shall be made on eachsampl
16、e unit and the results reported as “pass“ or “fail.“3.4 Dimensional change in laundering. After laundering, the finished dimensions of thewashcloths shall be 12 inches by 12 inches, plus or minus 1/2 inch. Testing shall be inaccordance with AATCC 96 Opt Vc. Use drying procedure (D), or samples may b
17、e driedusing a thermostatically controlled circulating oven at 221o - 230oF until dried. The sampleshall be allowed to cool for five minutes, sprinkled with water to permit damp pressing, andallowed to stand in this condition for five minutes. The dampened specimens shall be pressedwith a flatbed pr
18、ess as described in AATCC 96, section 5.2, or a hand iron as described inAATCC 96, section 5.10, at a temperature of 275o to 300oF. 19、ial-type label that includes laundering information is acceptable. Inaddition, there shall be a unit marking label containing the contractors name, contractnumber, size and National Stock Number (NSN).3.5.1 Fiber identification. In lieu of labeling each individual washcloth, the unit markinglabel sh
20、all include the fiber content of the washcloths in accordance with the Textile FiberProducts Identification Act.3.6 Label/tag. Each unit package shall be individually bar-coded with a paper tag. The papertag shall be standard bleached sulfate having a basis weight of 100 pounds. The paper usedfor th
21、e tags shall have a smooth finish to accept thermal transfer and direct printing. The tagsshall be clearly legible and readable by a scanner. The bar coding element shall be a 13 digitnational stock number (NSN). The bar code type shall be a medium to high code density andshall be located so that it
22、 is completely visible on the unit package and so that it causes nodamage to the item.4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to userecovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).5. QUALIT
23、Y ASSURANCE PROVISIONS5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of thiscommercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications,standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in thecommercial
24、market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of suchconformance.5.2 Market acceptance criteria. The item offered, or a generic equivalent, must have beensold to the commercial market or to the Government for at least two years.5.3 Warranty. The item offered shall include the standard w
25、arranty given to the commercialmarket beginning with the date of delivery of the individual items.5.4 Visual examination. Each washcloth shall be examined for the defects listed below.5.4.1 Defects. Any hole, cut, or tear; color not as specified; any part shaded; any spot orstain; any material defec
26、ts, distorted parts or poor workmanship; label missing, incorrect, orillegible; measurement of item not as specified; bar code omitted or not readable by scanner;human-readable interpretation (HRI) omitted or illegible; bar code not visible on folded,packaged item; bar code causes damage to the item
27、; any items not packaged in accordancewith the contract or purchase order.5.5 Acceptance criteria. Acceptance criteria shall be as specified in the contract or purchaseorder.6. PACKAGING6.1 Preservation, packing, and marking. The preservation, packing, and marking shall be asspecified in the contrac
