3、 of this commercial item description for all Federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers hand-held posthole augers. 2. CLASSIFICATION. Augers shall be of the following types, classes and sizes as specified (see 7.2). Type I - Telescoping stem. Class 1 - Nonadjustable bi

4、t - 6-inch (152 millimetre (mm). Class 2 - Adjustable bit - 8 to 14 inches (203 to 356 mm). Type II - Nontelescoping stem, and nonadjustable bit. Size 1 - 2-inch (51 mm). Size 2 - 4-inch (102 mm). Size 3 - 6-inch (152 mm). Size 4 - 8-inch (203 mm). 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Descrii3tion. Posth

5、ole hand augers are for use in producing holes in the earth, pimarily for the insertion of posts (fence or other). 6、oduct. The auger shall, as a minimum be in accordance with this commercial item description and shall be the manufacturers standard commercial product. Additional or better features which are not specifically prohibited by the commercial item description but which are a part of the manufacturers sta

7、ndard commercial product, shall be included in the auger being furnished. A standard commercial product is a product which has been sold or is being currently offered for sale on the commercial market through advertisements or manufacturers catalogs, or brochures, and represents the latest productio

8、n model. 3.3 Desim and construction. 3.3.1 Type I auger. The type I auger shall be of the telescoping stem design, capable of being extended to an additional length of not less than 90 percent of the nonextended length with a fixed position interval of not greater than 7 inches (179 millimetre (mm).

9、 A self-positioning, positive locking mechanism shall be provided for securing the stem in its extended position. 3.3.1.1 Class 1. The class 1 auger shall have a nonadjustable 6-inch (1 52 mm) bit. 3.3.1.2 Class 2. The class 2 auger shall have an adjustable 8-inch to 14-inch (203 mm to 356 mm) bit w

10、ith a fixed position interval of not greater than 1-inch (25 mm). The class 2 auger shall be capable of producing a hole having a nominal depth of 8 feet, 3 inches (21 metre (m). 3.3.2 Type II auger. The type I auger shall be similar to the type I, class 1 auger except that the stem shall be nonadju

11、stable, 0.75-inch (19 mm) diameter by 33-inch (838 mm) long. Only the outer stem as described in 3.3.1 shall be provided. This type shall be furnished with a bit size as specified in accordance with 2. Sizes 3 and 4 shall be designed to permit attachment of an extension (see 3.3.2.1). 3.3.2.1 Stem e

12、xtension (for sites 3 and 4). When specified (see 7.2), one or more additional extensions for the stem shall be furnished. Thread both ends to fit as stem extensions, with one coupling for each extension. 3.3.3 Handles. Type I and type II handles shall be a diameter of not less than 1-inch (25 mm).

13、The handle length shall be not less than 30 inches (762 mm) for type I and 22 inches (559 mm) for the type II auger. The handle shall be removable from the stem. 3.3.4 Fastening devices. All nuts, bolts, pins, and similar parts shall be installed with adequate means for preventing loosening or becom

14、ing out of adjustment. All fastening devices subject to removal or adjustment shall not be swaged, peened, staked, or otherwise permanently deformed. 3.3.5 Threaded parts. Threads shall comply with Ni3S Handbook H28. 3.3.6 Finish. The auger shall be thoroughly cleaned of all rust, grease, and dirt,

15、and given one coat of enamel. Augers shall be marke

16、d with the manufacturers name or readily identifiable trademark. 3.5 Workmanship. All burrs and sharp edges shall be removed; parts shall operate without any binding or stiffness; handles shall be free of splinters and knots. 3.5.1 Forgings. Forgings shall be free from scale, enclosures, cold shuts,

17、 mismatching, and other similar defects that may affect the structural strength of the forgings involved. 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. 4.1 Materials. The offerorkontractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Ac

18、quisition Regulation (FAR). Unless otherwise specified herein, all equipment, material, and articles incorporated in the work covered by this commercial item description are to be new and fabricated using materials produced from recovered materials to the maximum extent possible without jeopardizing

19、 the intended use. The term “recovered materials” means materials which have been collected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as opposed to virgin raw materials. Unless otherwise specified, none of the above shall be interpreted to mean that the use o

20、f used or rebuilt products are allowed under this commercial item description. 4.2 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fail within specified tolerances using conversion tables c

21、ontained in the latest version of ASTM SI-10 (IEWASTM SI-lo), and all other requirements of this commercial item description including form, fit, and function are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a re

22、quest should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable. The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product. 5. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this comm

23、ercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 6. PACKAGING. The preservation, packi

This CID replaces Military Specification MIL-A-3908C, dated 7 March 1969. 7.6 Metric products. The values states in either inch-pounds or SI units are to be regarded separately as

31、 standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.
