This commercial item description (CID) covers cylindrical universal grindingmachines intended for grinding workpieces where uniform tolerances for size, roundness, andfinish on a wide variety of materials are required.2. CLASSIFICATION. The cylindrical universal grin

4、ding machines shall be of the following typesswings, and sizes. 6、ility.3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS3.1 General requirements . The grinding machine shall be new and one of the manufacturerscurrent models capable of operation in accordance with the requirements herein. All parts subjectto wear, breakage, or distortion shall be accessible for adjustment, replacement,

7、and repair.3.1.1 Identification of axis . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(c), all axes of the grindingmachine shall be identified in accordance with American National Standards Institute(ANSI)/Electronics Industries Association (EIA) 267.3.2 Components . The grinding machine shall include, as a

8、minimum, the following components:3.2.1 Bed and base . The bed and base material shall be of sufficient strength and rigidity tosupport the machine components and to withstand the vibration, stress, and loads imposed on themachine during operation. The bed shall support and allow for precision movem

9、ent of thetraversing table and the grinding wheel base assembly. A means shall be provided for leveling andanchoring the machine to the floor. Access doors or removable panels shall be provided forservicing components housed within the base.3.2.2 Workhead . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(d), th

10、e workhead shall have the capabilityfor live and dead center grinding, with provisions for changeover to either operation. Theworkhead shall support the workpiece using chucks or collets. Unless otherwise specified(see 7.2(e), spindle noses and tapers shall conform to the manufacturers standard. The

11、workhead shall swivel on its base a minimum of 90 degrees toward the wheelhead to facilitateangle and face grinding. The workhead shall have means to indicate swivel position in degreesand provisions for securing the workhead in the desired position within the swivel range. Theworkhead shall rotate

12、the workpiece during grinding.3.2.3 Tailstock . A tailstock shall be provided for support of longer workpieces. The tailstockshall be longitudinally adjustable along the swivel table. Means for securing the tailstock afteradjustment shall be provided. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(f), the inte

The traversing table shall support a swivel table and its attachedcomponents. The longitudinal tr

14、averse distance shall be adjustable. Unless otherwise specified(see 7.2(g), the traversing table shall have automatic movement with a fast and normal traverserate, automatic reversal at a preset point, and shall traverse longitudinally on the bed.3.2.5 Swivel table . The swivel table shall be mounte

15、d on the traversing table and shall be capableof swiveling in the horizontal plane for grinding included angles and tapers. The swivel table shallhave means to indicate swivel position in increments of 1 degree or less and provisions forsecuring the swivel table in the desired position within the sw

16、ivel range. The number and size ofT-slots shall be as specified (see 7.2(h). The dimensions of the T-slots shall conform to therequirements of ANSI B5.1.3.2.6 Wheelhead assembly . The wheelhead shall swivel to allow for angle, face, and tapergrinding of the workpiece. The grinding wheelhead assembly

17、 shall include a wheelhead housing,spindle, grinding wheel, spindle drive system, and internal grinding assembly. The wheelhead shallbe mounted on the bed and shall traverse across the table. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(i),the minimum crossfeed range shall allow the perimeter of the maximum

18、diameter grinding wheelto traverse to the workpiece centerline. A graduated scale shall be provided to indicate swivelposition in increments of 1 degree or less. A means shall be supplied for locking the wheelhead inplace after positioning. The wheelhead shall be designed to accept grinding wheels o

19、f differingoutside diameters.3.2.6.1 Spindle . The spindle shall accept standard commercial grinding wheels. The spindle shallrotate the grinding wheel at a speed sufficient to perform all tests referenced in section 5.3. If thespindle is driven by a belt and pulley, a manual or automatic mechanism

20、to adjust belt tension shallbe provided. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2 (j), the spindle horsepower shall be thatconsidered as standard by the manufacturer.3.2.6.2 Grinding wheel . A grinding wheel(s) shall be provided as specified (see 7.2(k). Thewheels shall conform to ANSI B74.2, marked in a

21、ccordance with ANSI B74.13, and shall meetthe safety requirements established in ANSI B7.1.3.2.7 Internal grinding assembly . The grinding machine shall be equipped with an internalgrinding assembly consisting of a spindle, quills, and drive assembly. The spindle shall bedesigned to allow use of a v

22、ariety of grinding wheel sizes and quills.3.2.8 Controls . The manufacturer shall supply manual and automatic controls for operation ofthe machine. The controls shall be easily seen and conveniently operated from the control station.All components of the control system shall be protected from damage

23、 caused by the normalgrinding environment of vibration, coolant splash, grinding swarf or dust, and electric powerfluctuations.3.2.8.1 Control panel . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(l), the control panel shall include, asa minimum, the following manual controls and switches:a. Emergency stop bu

25、khead rotation.i. Sparkout timing mechanism.3.2.8.2 Automatic controls . An automatic infeed cycle for plunge and traverse grinding shall beprovided. The automatic cycle shall include a means of controlling infeed increments at desiredreversal and for limiting the total infeed for traverse grinding

26、cycle. A safety interlock shall preventsimultaneous operation of the automatic and manual wheelhead infeed. After completion of theautomatic cycle, the machine shall be able to repeat the automatic cycle without further adjustment orinput using the start or repeat switch. Unless otherwise specified

27、(see 7.2(m), automatic controls shallbe provided, as a minimum, for the following functions:a. Wheelhead assembly infeed.b. Traversing table motion.c. Workhead rotation.d. Grinding wheel rotation.e. Coolant flow.f. Sparkout.g. Grinding feedrate.3.2.8.3 Electronic control system . Unless otherwise sp

28、ecified (see 7.2(n), an electronic controlsystem with closed loop feedback capability and a digital readout system shall be supplied with thegrinding machine. The digital readout display shall indicate wheelhead and table position over theentire travel range of each axis. The digital readout display

29、 shall be visible to the operator whilecontrolling the grinding machine. The system shall have an accuracy of 0.00001 inch.3.2.9 Lubrication system . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(o), the grinding machine shall beequipped with an automatic lubricating system to direct oil flow from the reservo

30、ir to all machinecomponents requiring continuous lubrication. A means shall be provided for determining oil levelin the reservoir. The automatic lubricating system shall include a cleanable or replaceable filter.Upon loss of pressure in the automatic lubrication system, the grinding machine shallaut

31、omatically stop. Machine parts requiring periodic manual lubrication shall be readily accessiblethrough doors or removable panels.3.2.10 Coolant system . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(p), the grinding wheel shall be floodcooled. As a minimum, the coolant system shall consist of a reservoir, pu

32、mp, strainer, and allnecessary piping. The system shall be equipped with a method to control the rate of coolant flowfrom the reservoir and to direct coolant flow to the grinding area. When specified( see 7.2(q), an optional filtration system shall be provided.3.2.11 Hydraulic system . When provided

33、, the hydraulic system shall conform to the requirements ofNational Fluid Power Association (NFPA) T2.24.1. The hydraulic reservoir shall have means for determining fluid level.3.2.12 Electrical system . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(r),

35、the electrical system shall conformto the ANSI/National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) 79. The machine shall have dual 230/460-volt, 3-phase, 60-hertz circuit capability and shall be wired for the voltage specified (see 7.2(s).Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(t), the control system power shal

36、l be provided by a separate 120-volt, single-phase, 60-hertz circuit from the machine main power supply.3.2.13 Electric motors . The wheelhead and internal grinding (if applicable) drive motor(s) shallhave sealed and permanently lubricated ball or roller bearings, shall be energy efficient, and shal

37、lconform to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) MG-1. Unless otherwisespecified (see 7.2(u), the motors shall have open dripproof enclosures. Each motor control shallconform to NEMA ICS-1 and ICS-3.3.2.14 Optional accessories . Optional accessories shall be provided as specified

38、 (see 7.2(v).3.3 Performance . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(w), the grinding machines shall meet thealignment and performance requirements shown in tables II and III, respectively, when tested inaccordance with section 5.3 through 5.4.TABLE II. The machine shall be designed and manufactured inaccordance with ANSI B1

47、1.9. The manufacturer shall ensure that the machine and all equipmentand accessories used on the machine shall be in compliance with Occupational Safety and HealthAdministration (OSHA) 29 CFR PART 1910. If a conflict arises between the ANSI B11.9 andOSHA standards, the OSHA standards shall apply.3.6

48、 System of units . The U. S. Customary System of Units (US) or the International System ofUnits (SI) shall be used to graduate measuring and indicating devices. When only one system ofgraduation is acceptable, the particular graduation required shall be as specified (see 7.2(y).Regardless of the mea

49、surement system used, all measuring and indicating devices on the machineshall be graduated in the same system. When specified (see 7.2(z), measuring and indicatingdevices shall be graduated in both the US and SI system of measurements.3.7 Nameplate . A nameplate shall be securely attached to the machine. Unless otherwisespecified (see 7.2( aa), the nameplate shall contain the following information:a. Nomenclature.b. Manufacturers name.c.
