3、ncies.1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers plain, external, cylindrical grindingmachines. The machines covered by this CID are intended for use in shops where precisiongrinding to uniform tolerances for size, roundness, and finish on a wide variety of materials isrequired.2. CLASS

4、IFICATION. The grinding machines shall be of the following swings and sizes. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS3.1 General requirements . The machine shall

6、be new and one of the manufacturers currentmodels capable of operation in accordance with the requirements herein. All parts subject towear, breakage, or distortion shall be accessible for adjustment, replacement, and repair.3.1.1 Identification of axes . The grinding machine shall be provided with

7、X- and Z-axes of linearmotion. Table swivel shall rotate on the B-axis when provided. Crossfeed swivel shall rotate onthe B-axis when provided. Identification of the axes of motion shall be in accordance withAmerican National Standards Institute/Electronic Industries Association(ANSI/EIA) 267-C.3.2

8、Components . The grinding machine shall include, as a minimum, the following components:3.2.1 Base . The base shall support the other elements of the machine and shall incorporatematerials, shape, and mass to minimize adverse vibration and deflection. The base shall provide ameans for leveling and a

9、nchoring the machine. The base shall be of sufficient area and design toensure that the center of gravity of the worktable and wheelhead cannot extend beyond theperiphery of the base.3.2.2 Machineways . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(c), machineways shall be of the designconsidered by the manuf

10、acturer as standard for the machine. All machineways shall have aprotective means to keep swarf and other debris from bearing surfaces.3.2.3 Worktable . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(d), the machine shall have a worktablewith a means of mounting the workhead and tailstock and adjusting and loc

11、king their longitudinalposition. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(e), power traverse with a means for manual controlshall be provided. A means shall be provided to prevent table overtravel. When required, a swivel table shall be provided for mounting the workheadand tailstock and have an angular range of swivel as spe

14、cified (see 7.2(f). The swivel table shallbe provided with a locking means to provide a stable platform for grinding tapers or offsetcontours.3.2.5 Wheelhead slide table . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(g), the wheelhead slide tableshall be provided with manual and automatic infeed (X-axis) as

15、required by the grinding wheel. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(h), the wheelhead slide table X-axis shall be perpendicular tothe longitudinal traverse (Z-axis). If angular crossfeed is required, the X-axis shall be offset fromperpendicular by either 30 or 45 degrees, or mounted on an infinitely

16、 variable swivel as specified(see 7.2(i). Infeed requirements for the wheelhead slide table (grinding wheel) are shown in tableIII.TABLE III. The workhead shall be configured for dead- or live-center grinding as specified(see 7.2(j). The workhead shall be provided with an internal taper to accommodate replaceableworkpiece center

18、s. The workhead spindle shall be mounted on antifriction or low-frictionbearings that are automatically lubricated or sealed for life and designed to minimize axial andradial runout.3.2.6.1 Dead-center . When dead-center grinding is provided, the workhead shall have a driveplate (complete with drive

19、 pin) that revolves around the workpiece center. When live-center grinding is provided, the workhead spindle shall ha

21、ve aninternal taper designed for use with replaceable centers, collets, or chucks. Unless otherwisespecified (see 7.2(l), the taper provided shall be that considered by the manufacturer as standard.3.2.7 Tailstock . The tailstock shall be constructed with a spring-loaded spindle that can retractand

22、extend. A handwheel, lever, or other means shall be provided for adjusting spindle extension.The spring tension shall be adjustable to ensure the proper center pressure for the weight and sizeof the workpiece. The spindle shall have an internal taper identical in type and size to theworkhead spindle

23、. All moving parts shall be shielded from grinding swarf and other debris.3.2.8 Wheelhead assembly . The wheelhead assembly shall mount on the wheelhead slide tablewith its grinding wheel spindle horizontal and perpendicular to the X-axis. As a minimum, thewheelhead assembly shall consist of the fol

24、lowing:a. A supporting frame.b. A grinding wheel spindle and spindle drive.c. A protective housing for the wheelhead assembly.d. Grinding wheels(s) and appropriate safety cover.3.2.9 Grinding wheel spindle . The grinding wheel spindle shall be supported and held in axial andradial alignment by preci

25、sion antifriction or lowfriction bearings, and dynamically balanced toprovide vibration-free operation at all spindle speeds. Continuous or permanent lubrication of thebearings shall be provided. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(m), the spindle drive,horsepower, and speed shall be that considered

26、 by the manufacturer as standard for the grindingwheel(s) provided.3.2.10 Grinding wheel(s) . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(n), the grinding wheel type(s) andsize(s) shall be that considered by the manufacturer as standard. The minimum grinding wheelwidth shall be as specified (see 7.2(o). The

27、 wheel(s) shall be marked in accordance with ANSIB74.13, and meet the safety requirements established in ANSI B7.1.3.2.11 Grinding wheel dresser . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(p), a grinding wheel dresserwith at least a one-carat diamond shall be provided to true the face of the grinding whee

28、l. Thedresser shall be capable of truing the grinding wheel to its full usable depth. Dressing shall notrequire removal of the workpiece.3.2.12 Dials, scales, and indicating devices . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(q), all dials andindicating devices used to indicate linear machine axis positio

29、n or movement shall be graduated inincrements not greater than 0.0001 inch. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(r), slide scales usedfor indicating rotary position shall be graduated in increments not greater than 1 degree andinclude a vernier for indicating increments not greater than 0.1 degree. W

When specified (see 7.2(s), a digital readout system shall be provided.The system shall consist of an electr

32、onic display, related components, and any equipmentnecessary to provide a readily visible digital readout over the full working range. The digitalreadout shall be capable of indicating in both US and SI systems of measurement. Unlessotherwise specified (see 7.2(t), the digital readout system shall m

All operating controls shall be located convenient to the operators position.Control enclosures shall mee

Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(u), operating controls shall provide formanual infeed, automatic infeed, and automatic cycle operating modes.3.2.13.1 Manual infeed . A handwheel or other manually operated device sha

35、ll be furnished forfeeding the grinding wheel into the workpiece. The hand infeed shall have a coarse and fineinfeed with a graduated indicator/dial.3.2.13.2 Automatic infeed . Automatic infeed of the grinding wheel shall be provided for traversegrinding operations. Controls shall be provided for se

36、lective infeed increments at desiredreversal(s) and for limitation of total infeed. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(v), the infeedmechanism shall be actuated at each or alternate reversal of the longitudinal tables movement atthe choice of the operator.3.2.13.3 Automatic cycle . Unless otherwise

37、 specified (see 7.2(w), the grinding machine shallhave an automatic cycle for plunge and traverse grinding. After setup for an automatic cycle, theoperator shall only be required to load the workpiece, start the cycle by a single control, andunload the workpiece. The automatic cycle shall include, a

38、s a minimum, the following functions:a. Plunge grinding.1. Wheel advances at fast feed.2. Workhead rotation and coolant flow or dust extraction begins.3. Fast feed reduces as wheel nears workpiece.4. Coarse feed engages (rate shall be adjustable or preprogrammed).5. Fine feed engages as workpiece ne

Power table traverse stops, workhead rotation stops, coolant flow or dust extractionstops, wheel retracts, feed mechanism is reset to original position.3.2.14 Lubricat

42、ion system . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(x), the grinding machine shall beequipped with an automatic lubricating system to direct oil flow from the reservoir to all machinecomponents requiring continuous lubrication. A means shall be provided for determining oil levelin the reservoir. The au

43、tomatic lubricating system shall include a cleanable or replaceable filter. Upon loss of pressure in the automatic lubrication system, the grinding machine shallautomatically stop. Machine parts requiring periodic manual lubrication shall be readily accessiblethrough doors or removable panels.3.2.15

44、 Coolant system . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(y), the grinding wheel shall be aflood cooled. As a minimum, the coolant system shall consist of a reservoir, pump, strainer, andall necessary piping. The system shall be equipped with a method to control the rate of coolantflow to the grinding a

45、rea. When specified (see 7.2(z), an optional filtration system shall beprovided.3.2.16 Dust extractor system . When specified (see 7.2(aa), a dust extractor system and allnecessary connections shall be provided for dry grinding. The dust extractor system shall beinterlocked with the coolant system t

46、o allow individual operation of the selected system andprevent simultaneous operation of both systems.3.2.17 Hydraulic system . If a hydraulic system is provided, it shall conform to the requirementsof National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) T2.24.1. The hydraulic system shall be completeand include

47、 all pumps, valves, piping, cylinders and controls. Means shall be provided to preventdamage to the components from overpressure. A filter system shall be provided to ensuredelivery of clean fluid. The hydraulic reservoir shall have means for determining fluid level.3.2.18 Electrical system . Unless

48、 otherwise specified (see 7.2(bb), the electrical system shallconform to the National Fire Protection Association (ANSI/NFPA) 79. The machine shall havedual 230/460-volt, 3-phase, 60-hertz circuit capability and shall be wired for the voltage specified(see 7.2(cc). Unless otherwise specified (see 7.

49、2(dd) the control system power shall beprovided by a separate 120-volt, single-phase, 60-hertz circuit from the machine main powersupply.3.2.19 Electrical motors . The grinding machines drive motor(s) shall be rated for continuousduty cycle, shall have sealed and permanently lubricated ball or roller bearings, shall be energyefficient, and shall conform to NEMA MG-1.
