1、 A-A-59854 12 January 2010 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION HAMMER, MOUNTAINEERING The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers the requirements for piton hammers which are used

2、to pound pitons into rock cracks for protection. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The hammer mountaineering will be furnished in one size with a leash. 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The hammer shall be comprised of a head, shaft and leash and being able to easily drive Anchor, Rock, Pitons A-A-59833 in rock. The ha

3、mmer, with leash, shall weigh no more than 70 grams and shall provide ease of use with typical combat gloves and be as lightweight as possible, while meeting the standards in this description. 3.1 Head. The hammer mountaineering head shall be of an investment cast design. The head shall have a hamme

4、r face and a curved pick end. The hammer shall be strong enough to withstand rock testing and driving pitons into rock cracks. The pick shall be drooped for leveraging out pitons. The pick shall have a hole for attaching to carabiners to leverage out pitons. The hammer face shall be approximately 2.

5、5 centimeters X 2.5 centimeters. 3.1.1 Shaft. The shaft of the hammer shall be straight. The shaft shall include an eyelet for a wrist loop and harness leash. The leash shall be removable and replaceable and shall be in acco

8、rdance with Type I, Size III as specified in accordance with the Webbing Mountaineering A-A-59840 and shall be attached by a non-permanent knot. The leash shall only be intended for security, not weight bearing. The length of the leash shall be 46 () 2 inches. 3.2 Color. The mountaineering hammer sh

9、all be provided in a low reflectance, matte finish and provide low contrast with typical use terrain unless otherwise specified in the solicitation or contract order (see 7.2). 3.3 Materials. 3.3.1 Head material. The head of the hammer shall be constructed of 17-4 stainless steel. 3.3.2 Shaft materi

10、al. The shaft of the hammer shall be constructed of hickory, treated with linseed oil. 3.3.3 Leash material. The leash shall be 1/2 inch tubular webbing. 3.4 Tests. The hammer head/pick shall be hardened and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of C25 to C50. 3.5 Workmanship. The finished hammer shall co

11、nform to the quality of product established by this document. The occurrence of defects shall not exceed the contractors own quality assurance standards and the quality assurance standards defined in the technical data in the solicitation and/or contract. 3.6 Service life. The hammer shall have no u

12、nexpected material or component failures during a continuous one-year cycle. The hammer shall have no unexpected material or component failures during periodic use over a five year period. 3.7 Labels/barcoding/instruction slip. If applicable, all labeling, barcoding and instruction slip requirements

13、 shall be as specified in the solicitation or contract (see 7.2). 3.7.1 Labels. Each Hammer Mountaineering shall have identification label Class 5 conforming to Type VI of MIL-DTL-32075. The color of the label shall be white. The following information shall be included in the printing for the identi

14、fication label for the hammer mountaineering. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acqu

17、isition Regulation (FAR). 4.1 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible, provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements and promote

18、s economically advantageous life cycle costs. 5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Descriptions, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practic

19、es, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Visual examination.
