14、ic exemption has been obtained.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 First article. When specified, (see 6.3), a sample shall be subjected to first articleinspection, in accordance with 4.2.3.2 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered,or environmentally preferable materials sho

15、uld be used to the maximum extent possible provided that thematerial meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promotes economicallyadvantageous life cycle costs.3.3 Materials and components3.3.1 Basic material. The basic material shall be 100 percent combed cotton, single p

16、ly yarnfor both warp and filling, 3 up 1 down left-hand twill conforming to the requirements in Table I. Thecolor shall be Khaki 3729 (see 4.3).3.3.1.1 Shade matching. The color of the test specimen shall match the standard sample whenviewed under filtered tungsten lamps that approximate artificial

The thread shall be spun combed cotton machine thread, soft finished, 14,173to 16,535 yards per pound, 3-ply with a minimum breaking strength of 1.2 pounds when tested inaccordance with 4.4.1.

20、 The color of the thread shall be a good match to the basic material. Thefinished thread shall have no chemical finishes or treatments, other than those commonly used oncommercial threads. The direction of the final twist shall be “Z“.3.3.3 Button. The buttons for the fly and the waistband shall be

21、melamine formaldehydecomposition, 24 lignes and shall conform to the style shown in Figure 1. The button shall have anoverall thickness of 0.125 (+ 1/32) inch. The color shall be a good match to the basic material and thecompressive strength shall be 800 (lb., min.) when tested in accordance with 4.

22、4.1. The nonmagnetic d-rings shall be black acetyl, size 1-inch and shall conform toFigure 2. (see 4

23、.4.1 and 6.5).3.3.5 Gimp. The gimp used for reinforcing the buttonholes shall be cotton, soft finish, vatdyed, size 8, 3-ply (min.) and shall be a good match to the basic material. The direction of the finaltwist shall be “S“ (see 4.4.1).3.4 Description. The semi-boxer type swimmers trunks shall hav

24、e a waistband with attached1/2 belt straps. There shall be two belt loops on the left front and the left belt shall loop through the twoD-ring closures on the right belt for fit adjustment. The trunks shall have a button fly. The button flyshall have buttons placed one (1) on the inside left waistba

25、nd and three (3) on the right fly. The trunksshall have a patch pocket on the back right side.3.4.1 Performance requirements. The overall design of the semi-boxer type swimmers trunksshall be suitable when worn alone or under a wet suit and shall be static free. The trunks shall be non-chaffing and

26、non-pinching under pressure of the wet suit and have a low noise signature closure systemsthat allows for adjustability and access for a catheter.3.5 Patterns. Standard patterns shall be furnished to the contractor for use in cutting workingpatterns (see 6.4). The working patterns shall be identical

27、 to the government patterns. The standardpatterns shall not be altered in any way and are to be used as a guide form making the contractorsworking patterns. The working patterns shall be identical to the standard patterns. The patternsprovide for a 1/2 inch seam allowance for all doubled lapped and

28、double stitched seams 3/8 inch forwaistband, waistband attachment, pocket and belts.3.5.1 List of pattern parts. 30、on. Construction of the swimmers trunks shall refer to Figures 2, 3and 4.3.6.1 Seams and stitching. Double lapped seams and double stitched seams shall be used forthe crotch and side seams. Seam allowances shall be 1/2 inch for all double lapped and double stitchedseams and 3/8 inch for the waistban

31、d, waistband attachment, pocket and belts. The front rise shall be amock double needle, double lapped seam. All fly pieces, pocket hem and the fly extension on the frontsshall be overedged. All belts, waistbands, pocket edges, right fly front and belt loops shall beedgestitched 1/16 inch from folded

32、 edge. All general stitching shall have a minimum of 10-12 stitchesper inch. For overedge stitching, the stitches per inch shall be a minimum of 8-12. Thread breaks andends of stitching not caught in another line of stitching shall be backstitched at least 1/2 inch. All threadends shall be trimmed t

33、o 1/8 inch and all loose thread shall be removed from the trunks. Raw edges arenot acceptable anywhere on the garment, except on the pocket seam allowances.3.6.2 Hem. The leg hem shall be turned 3/8 inch and turned again 1/2 inch and edged stitched1/16 from inside fold. The finished hem shall measur

34、e 1/2 inch (+ 1/16).3.6.3 Fly front. The fly piece (on the left front) shall be reinforced with a horizontal line ofstitching centered between buttonholes as marked on the patterns. Stitching shall not extend past thefinished folded edge of the left front. The “J” stitching on the left front shall m

35、easure 1-5/8 (+ 1/8)inches from the front folded edge. The right fly shall have 3 buttons matching corresponding buttonholesand shall measure 1-1/2 (+ 1/8) inches from finished stitching to finished folded edge of the right front.The end of the fly closure shall have a bar tack across the double nee

Buttonholes shall measure 5/8 inch (+ 1/32) cut length, have aneyelet end, taper bar type with worked over gimp and e

37、nd securely tacked with purling on the outsideon the left fly piece. The buttonhole at the end of the waistband shall be the same except the purlingshall be on the inside. Three (3) horizontal buttonholes shall be placed on the left fly piece 1/2 (+ 1/32)inch from the inner folded edge of the fly pi

38、ece to the inside edge of the eyelets, according to marks onthe pattern. One (1) horizontal buttonhole shall be placed on the right end of the waistband 3/4 (+1/32) inch from the finished folded edge to inside edge of eyelet and centered.3.6.5 Buttons attachment. Three (3) buttons shall be attached

39、on the right fly through all pliesto correspond to the buttonholes on the left fly. One (1) button shall be placed on the left end of thewaistband 1-1/4 (+ 1/32) inches from the finished folded edge and centered to correspond with thebuttonhole on the right end of the waistband. The waistband button

40、 shall be attached on the inside ofthe waistband to the inner ply only.3.6.6 Waistband, belt and belt loops. The waistband) shall measure 1-1/2 inches wide(+ 1/8). Each belt (right and left) shall measure 1-1/8 (+ 1/16) inches wide. The waistband shall havetwo (2) belt loops positioned 2-1/8 (+ 1/8)

41、 inches apart and 2-3/8 (+ 1/8) inches from the finished frontedges as marked on the pattern. A bartack shall be placed across the top of each belt loop parallel tothe waistband. The waistband shall have two adjustment belt straps at center front. The right belt shallcarry the two (2) D-rings for ad

42、justability and positioned on the waistband as marked on the patterns.(see Figure 2). The left belt shall be positioned on waistband under the 2 belt loops. Ends of thewaistband shall be turned in no more than 3/4 inch and no less than 1/2 inch. Belt loops shall measure1/2 inch wide (+ 1/16) and dou

43、ble stitched with a 3/8 inch gauge. The belt loop opening shall finished1-5/8 to 1-3/4 inches in length measured from stitching at the top of the waistband to the bottom insidefolded edge.3.6.7 Patch pocket. The back patch pocket on the right side shall measure 5-1/2 (+1/4) incheslong and 5-1/2 (+ 1

44、/4) inches wide. For design uniformity, the top corner of the pocket shall be tackedwith a triangular stitching. The base of triangle shall be at top corner of pocket and apex at lowercorner of hem. The triangle base shall measure 3/16 to 5/16 inch and the sides shall measure 3/4 to 7/8inch.3.7 Labe

45、ls. A commercial-type label shall include the contractors name, contract number, sizeand National Stock Number (NSN), fiber and laundering information. The inscription on the label shallbe legible and shall show fastness to laundering. The label shall last the life of the garment. Thecommercial labe

46、l shall be positioned and stitched on all four sides, 1/16 inch from edge, and placed onthe inside waistband 1/2 inch above the waistband seam at the center back of the trunks. 48、is clearly legible and readable by a scanner. The bar coding element shall be a 13 digit nationalstock number (NSN). There shall be a 12 digit UPC number assigned for all NSNs by DSCP. Theinitials UPC must appear beneath the UPC code. The bar code NSN and UPC types shall be amedium to high code density and shall be located so that it is completely visible on the item when it isfolded and/or packaged as specified and so that it causes no damage to the item.3.8 Finished measurements. The trunks shall be provid
