、 EIA STANDARD TP-79 Insert Bond Strength Test Procedure for Electrical Connectors EIA-364-79 June 1998 ANSI/EIA-364-79-1998(R2015) Approved: June 22, 1998 Reaffirmed: March 24, 2015 EIA-364-79NOTICE EIA Engineering Standards and Publications are designed to serve the public interest through eliminat
、ing misunderstandings between manufacturers and purchasers, facilitating interchangeability and improvement of products, and assisting the purchaser in selecting and obtaining with minimum delay the proper product for his particular need. Existence of such Standards and Publications shall not in any
、 respect preclude any member or nonmember of ECIA from manufacturing or selling products not conforming to such Standards and Publications, nor shall the existence of such Standards and Publications preclude their voluntary use by those other than ECIA members, whether the standard is to be used eit
、her domestically or internationally. Standards and Publications are adopted by ECIA in accordance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) patent policy. By such action, ECIA does not assume any liability to any patent owner, nor does it assume any obligation whatever to parties adoptin
、g the Standard or Publication. This EIA standard is considered to have International Standardization implication, but the International Electrotechnical Commission activity has not progresses to the point where a valid comparison between the EIA Standard and the IEC document can be made. This Standa

It is the responsibility of the user of this Standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations before its use

、 connector insert. As defined in EIA-622, an electrical connector insert is the insulating element of a connector that supports and positions the contact( s ). 2 Test resources 2.1 Equipment Tensile testing aparatus Visual magnification means (optional) 2.2 Fixture Gripping fixture (See Figure 1) 3
、Test specimen 3 .1 Description The test sample shall consist of the items bonded together as in application and mounted approximately as shown in Figure 1. 1 EIA364-79 3.2 Preparation The specimen shall be prepared as normally used in production consisting of a bonded insert assembly or a portion of
、 a bonded insert assembly. A suitable gripping fixture shall be bonded to the front and rear of the insert assembly. 4 Test procedure 4.1 Setup Using suitable equipment, an axial tensile load shall be applied to the test specimen. Unless otherwise specified, the load shall be sufficient to cause a s
、tress of689 kPa 35 kPa (100 psi 5 psi) to the insert assembly bond. The actual axial load required is determined by multiplying the available bond surface area of the test joint by the required stress. Unless otherwise specified, for a bonded connector insert assembly, the load shall be increased at
、 a minimum rate of0.45 kilogram per second (1 pound per second) until the required load is reached. Unless otherwise specified, the required load shall be maintained for a minimum of30 seconds. 4.2 Requirements A failure is identified by visual observation (unless otherwise specified, up to 3x magni
、fication) of separation or cracks at the bond joint while the required max. load is applied. If a failure occurs, indicate cohesive (substrate fails rather than adhesive), adhesive or indeterminant failure. 2 EIA364-79 5 Details to be specified The following details shall be specified in the Detail
、Specification: 5.1 The tensile load applied. 5.2 The rate ofload application. 5.3 The time ofload application. 5.4 Number of samples to be tested. 5.5 Pass/fail criteria. 5.6 Additional requirements if other than specified. 6 Test documentation Documentation shall contain the following: 6.1 Title of
、 test. 6.2 Sample description - including fixturing. 6.3 Test equipment used and dates oflast calibration. 6.4 Test procedure. 6.5 Values and observations 6.6 Ambient temperature and humidity 6.7 Name of operator and date oftest. 6.8 Any referencing documentation such as an applicable Detail specifi
