INTRODUCTION This standard was formulated for the purpose of describing an easily understood coding system, which has been sponsored and operated by the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) since 1945 for the identification of the manufacturing

10、source and the date of manufacture of an electronic component or equipment. Currently many manufacturers are participating in the program. A user may determine who. manufactured the component or equipment or when it was manufactured through reference to the EIA source and date code listing, or by di

11、rect contact with EIA. The source code was originally part of this standard. The requirements for the source code are now covered in EIA-476A. 1 SCOPE This standard describes a system for identification of the date of manufacture of an electronic component or equipment through the manufacturers mark

12、ing the product with a series of numbers known as the EIA date code. EIA additionally provides a scheme for standardization of the calendar year and week in a date code. If the date code is desired by the customer it must specified in the contractual agreements (purchase order or ordering specificat

13、ion). 2 REQUIREMENTS 2.1 Date Code The date code shall be a four-digit number consisting of the last two digits of the year followed by an additional two digits corresponding to the week of the year, in accordance with MIL-STD-1285 Date Code. (Example: Date Code 8632 denotes component parts or equip

14、ment manufactured during the 32nd week of 1986.) 2.2 Marking The combined source and date code shall be marked on a component or equipment in a uniform manner with the source code number preceding the date code, separated by a dash; for example: 1 13-961 O. This example identifies the manufacturer a

15、s the organization having been assigned source code 113 and the component as having been manufactured in the 10th week of the calendar year 1996. E IA-476-B Page 2 A manufacturer should use his internal company method of identification of production in selection of an appropriate date code that iden

16、tifies a production run that may span more than one week. For example, the manufacturer may utilize the week in which production has begun or the week that has ended, as long as his selection process will allow lot identification when future inquiries are made utilizing the assigned date code. If a

17、manufacturer is unable to use the full four digits of the date code because of space and legibility limitations it may abbreviate the four digits to three digits through using only the last digit of the year. Use of the date code, in the format specified in this standard, in combination with the sou

18、rce code is optional. The date code may be used by itself without the source code. The source code may be used by itself without the date code. Date may beshown at a separate location in alternative ways. Source and/or date code marking on the electronic component equipment must be legible following environmental testing and/or special tests applicable to marking as specified in the detail specification. 3 QUALITY ASSURANCE Source and date code marking quality may be specified in the detail specification or other ordering requirements.
