The samples shall be wiped clean of grease and foreign objects using a dry cloth (without solvents). Each s
、ample shall be individually tested by means of a differential scanning calorimeter (dsc) or by differential thermal analysis (dta). The sample must be clean and dry. The cell is cleaned by holding it at 400C for 10 minutes in nitrogen. The testing cell should be cleaned after standing overnight and
、between testing of different formulations. The temperature scale should be adjusted according to the instrument instruction manual until the determined melting point of pure indium metal is 156.6OC at a heat rate of 5 per minute. Engineering Notes: Dupont 990 with DSC Cell: With the instrument in is
、otherpal mode, calibrate the “starting temperature dial“ according to the instrument instruction manual. Alternately the dial may be set to a reading which results in a corrected thermocouple read-out of 190C. Perkin-Elmer DSC-1 or DSC-2: Run seve-al pure metal standards (e.g., indium, tin, lead, zi
、nc) through their melting point at a heating rate of 5C per minute. Plot the melting temperatures and interpolate to find the correct set point for 190C. Repeated calibrations require only adjustments for the indium melt temperature. Prepare a clean aluminum dish by heating the pan in the flame of a
、 fisher burner. Remove the pan from the flame and immediately cool in a gentle stream of air. Remove the insulation from the conductor. Flatten the resin LO about . 2/3 of its thickness (not critical). Trim the sample.to an approximate roundness, about 2 mm (0.08 in.) in diameter. The sample should
、weigh approximately 1 to 2 mg. Position the sample in the center of the sterilized aluminum pan, cover with clean $316 stainless steel screen (40 mesh) and crimp the pan. Place the sample and pan in an instrument cell and flush it for 5 minutes with cylinder nitrogen at 60 k 10 cm3 per minute. Rapid
、ly increase the sample temperature (20C per min.) from a 100C or lower initial temperature, to 190 4 loC. After 50 k 5 cm3 per minute oxygen flow and start time-base recording. Other flow rates of up to 150 cm3 per minute inclusive maximum, can be used. Record the rate of flow used. Oxygen should be
、 equivalent to, or better than, 99.6 percent extra dry grade. The oxygen induction point shall be recorded as time zero, and the chart speed shall be sufficient to provide a clearly discernible slope at the start of the exothermic reaction. The test in the pure, dry oxygen atmosphere shall continue
、until the exothermic peak is produced. The intersection of the tangent of the exothermic sloped line with the extended base line will be drawn. The time interval from time zero to this intersection point is read from the base line and recorded as the F y, e e a I EIA IS-43AA 88 3234600 0002432 O = N
、Q-EIA/LS-43- Page 9 oxidative induction time. The insulation over the copper conductor shall be capable of providing a minimum oxidation induction time of 30 minutes. 3.3.4 CORE SEPARATOR TAPE A separator tape shall be applied longitudinally to physically separate the core into two compartments. Suc
、cessive lengths of separator tapes may be joined during the manufacturing process by means of cold weld, electric weld, or soldering with a nonacid flux. The metal tape shall be coated on both sides with a dielectric protective coating. This protective coating shall cover the edge of the metal so that no bare metal is exposed. After the joining process the protective coating shall be restored so that it is continuous. The coated metal separator tape shall be tested for resistance to filling material by aging a one meter (3 ft) length of the tape
