26、) 5 1Scope ThisEuropeanStandardspecifiesanumberoftestmethodsforthedeterminationoftherelationshipbetweenthe watercontentandthedensityofunboundandhydraulicallyboundmixturesunderspecifiedtestconditions.The testresultsprovideanestimateofthemixturedensitythatcanbeachievedonconstructionsitesandprovidesa r

Thetestresultsareusedasabasisforspecifyingrequirementsforhydraulicallyboundandunboundmixtures beforeuseinroadconstruction.Thetestresultalsoallowsaconclusiontobedrawnastothewatercontentat whichamixturecanbesatisfactorilycompacted

Foragivendegreeofcompactionworkappliedtoaparticularmixtureanoptimumwatercontentexistsatwhichthe drydensityobtainedreachesamaximumvalue.TheseprinciplesareillustratedinFigure1.
