Oneofthesidesoftheblockshallhaveablindholealongtheblockaxis,soastohousethethermocouple(see 4.3).Thediameteroftheholeshallexceedthatofthethermocouplebyamaximumof0,3mm.Itsde

29、pthshallbe suchthatthethermocouplejunctionlieswithin2mmofthecentreoftheblock. 6 Procedure WARNING Ifnoinformationisavailableonthermalbehaviourofthesubstance,apreliminarytestshouldbe performedwithasmallamountofsubstance(forexample,5g)inordertodeterminewhetherthesubstance explodesat75 C. Adjustthetemp

30、eratureoftheovento(75 2) C. Afterhavingweighedanemptyglasstube,placethetestsampleintoit. Ifthesubstanceisaliquid,apasteoragranularsolid,pourorplaceitintothetube.Granularsolidsaretested withoutcompacting.Thesubstanceshallfillthelowerpartofthetubeuptoaheightof(50 1)mm,whichgivesa testsamplevolumeof(10

31、0 2)ml. Foracompactsolid,thetestsamplecomprisesoneofthecylindricalblocksdescribedin5.2.Placetheblockinthe lowerpartofthetube. Weighthetubecontainingthesubstancetobetestedinordertodeterminethemassofthetestsampleandderive theloadingdensityofthesubstance,bymeansofthefollowingequation: where r istheload
