EN 1365-5:2004 (E) 4 Introduction The purpose of this test is to measure the abil

、ity of a representative specimen of a balcony or walkway or a part of those to maintain its loadbearing capacity when exposed to fire according to EN 1363-1. Caution The attention of all persons concerned with managing and carrying out this fire resistance test is drawn to the fact that fire testing

、 can be hazardous and that there is a possibility that toxic and/or harmful smoke and gases can be evolved during the test. Mechanical and operational hazards can also arise during the construction of the test elements or structures, their testing and disposal of test residues. An assessment of all

、potential hazards and risks to health should be made and safety precautions should be identified and provided. Written safety instructions should be issued. Appropriate training should be given to relevant personnel. Laboratory personnel should ensure that they follow written safety instructions at

、all times. EN 1365-5:2004 (E) 5 1 Scope This Part of EN 1365 specifies a method for determining the fire resistance, in respect with loadbearing capacity and with no separating function, of: balconies exposed to the fire from either outside or inside the building; and walkways exposed to the fire fr

This standard is used in conjunction with EN 1363-1. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. 30、re and loading conditions shall conform to those specified in EN 1363-1. When testing balconies, walkways or their components, a pressure of 20 Pa shall be established at the position 100 mm below the underside of the furnace cover slab. 5.2 Loading conditions The test specimen shall be subjected to

、 loads determined in accordance with EN 1363-1. The determination of the load shall be clearly indicated in the test report. The magnitude and the distribution of the load shall be such that the maximum stresses produced in the test specimen are representative of those in practice. 6 Test specimen 6

、.1 General The test specimen is the complete balcony or walkway, or part of it, chosen to represent the most onerous conditions of failure. If the fire resistance of a component will not be negatively influenced by the complete system, then the complete balcony or walkway can be represented by a par

、t of the complete system and tests may be carried out on that part according to EN 1365-3 and/or EN 1365-4. 6.2 Size The test specimen shall be full size unless the actual size is larger than can be accommodated in the furnace. When the actual size cannot be accommodated in the furnace, the height o

、f the test specimen shall be 3 m and the dimensions (length and width) of a balcony at least 3 m 3 m and of a walkway at least 4 m 3 m. Part of the balcony or walkway shall be tested in a way such that the result is representative for the entire construction. A floor shall be tested with a size as s

、pecified in EN 1365-3. A column shall be tested with a size as specified in EN 1365-4. A tension member shall be tested as a column with a size as specified in EN 1365-4. A beam shall be tested with a size as specified in EN 1365-3. A balustrade shall be tested with a size as specified in EN 1365-3.

、e. It shall include all construction details, materials and components (including water proofing and drainage system) and shall be supported as in practice. An example of each type of mechanical joint or connection contained within the element for purposes of erection, construction or expansion shal

、l be incorporated in the test construction, even though such joints may in practice occur at greater centres than the relevant dimension of the test specimen. Different jointing systems shall not be included in a single test specimen, unless it can be shown that they will not interfere with the perf

、ormance of each other. 6.4.2 Floor The distance between the furnace wall or the associated construction and the nearest side of the beam or joist along the free edges shall be representative of the situation in practice. For a construction with an exposed length/width greater than 3 m containing bea

、ms, the distance of both edge beams to the nearest centre beams may be reduced. In this case additional loading shall be applied on them to produce stress levels equal to those in the other beams. The connections/junctions of the periphery of the floor with the associated construction shall be carri

Where in the test configuration the free edges are exposed, where they would not be exposed in practice, these edges shall be sealed w

、ith mineral wool and/or other materials according to the sponsor. 6.5 Exposure Heating conditions shall be as specified in EN 1363-1. The test specimen shall be exposed to fire in a manner representative of the way it would be exposed in practice. 6.6 Construction The test specimen shall be construc

、ted as described in EN 1363-1. 6.7 Verification Verification of the test specimen shall be carried out as described in EN 1363-1. EN 1365-5:2004 (E) 10 7 Installation of test specimen 7.1 General The test specimen (a balcony or a walkway, their part or a component) shall be installed in a manner rep

、resentative of its use in practice. 7.2 Loading and restraint The test specimen representing a balcony or a walkway, or their parts, shall be tested to simulate end use boundary conditions. The magnitude and the distribution of the load shall be such that the maximum stresses produced are representa

、tive of or higher than those expected in practice. All balconies and walkways or their parts shall be tested to loads determined in accordance with EN 1363-1. When testing total systems load shall be applied uniformly or by a point loading system in accordance with EN 1365-2. For single components,

、such as columns, loading shall be applied according to the relevant test standards (e.g. EN 1365-4). 8 Conditioning The test specimen shall be conditioned in accordance with EN 1363-1. 9 Application of instrumentation 9.1 Furnace thermocouples (plate thermometers) Plate thermometers shall be provide

、d in accordance with EN 1363-1. When a complete assembly is tested there shall be at least one for every 1,5 m 2of the outside exposed surface area of the test specimen and additional plate thermometers adjacent to tension bars and columns. The plate thermometers shall be orientated so that side A faces away from the test specimen. For test specimens with less than 6 m 2exposed area, a minimum of four plate thermometers shall be used. 9.2 Pressure The furnace pressure shall be measured at locations with pressure sensors as described in EN 1363-1. 9.3 D
