Rovingproductsshouldbecheckedvisuallyduringtheproductionprocessagainstinternallydefinedaccepta

25、nce standards.Thequalitysystemshallbedeterminedbythemanufacturertoensureproductsofmarketablequality, suitablefortheintendedprocessingsystemsandconformingto,whereapplicable,customeracceptance requirements. 4.2ShapeDeviations: Theshapeofarovingbobbinmayshowdeviationsascomparedtoaperfectcylindrical sha

26、pewithprescribeddimensions.Firstofallthedimensions(bobbinheight,externaldiameterandinternal diameter)maydeviatefromtheprescribeddimensions.Moreovertheshapemaybenotperfectlycylindrical. Typicalshapedeviationsforrovingbobbinsare:roundcorners,barrelshape,doubleconvexshape,telescoped shapeanddogboneshap

27、e. 4.3Otherdefectsoriginatingfromtheproductionprocess: Themostcurrentarethefilamentationofthebobbin (shortsinglefilamentsprotrudingfromthesurfaceofthebobbin)andtheyellowdiscolourisationofthebobbin (generallyseenasasignofmigrationoroxidationoftheseizing). 5 Applicationperformance 5.1General Applicati

28、onperformancemaybedescribedbyeitherquantitativeorqualitativepropertiesthatdeterminethe processabilityoftheglassfibrerovinginthespecificapplicationforwhichitisintended.Inthesamewayasfor visualdefects,rovingproductsshouldbecheckedduringtheproductionprocessagainstinternallydefined acceptancestandards.

29、5.2Unwinding: Theactionoftakingtherovingfromtherovingbobbin.Thiscanbedoneeitherfromtheinside (internal)orfromtheoutside(external).Mostproductsaremadeforinternalunwinding,whichnecessarilyresultsin atwistintherovingaftereveryturning.Rovingsthataremadeforexternalunwindinggenerallyaremadeona cardboardtu

30、beandcanbetakenofftangentially(byhavingthebobbinrotatearounditsaxis),thusnotresultingin atwistintheroving. 5.3Fallingwindings: Canbedescribedasthefallingoftherovingfromthebobbin,buildingupadisorderlysetof rovingloops(coils)onthebottom. 5.4Ribbonisation: Canberegardedastheoppositeofsplit.Itisthetende

31、ncyofarovingtoappearasanonsplit entity.Alsosplitproductscanshowribbonisation,speciallyoftherovingdirectlyafterleavingthebobbin.However, forthesesplitproductsthisribbonisationmustdisappearduringtheprocess(speciallyafterpassingoftherovingof guidingpins,tensionbarsandthechopper). 5.5Catenary: Isthephen

32、omenonthatdifferentbundlesorstrandsinaroving(eitherinsplitproductsorinrovings thatshowfalsesplit)havedifferentlengths,resultingindifferentdisplacementsofthesebundleswhentherovingis suspended. 5.6Abrasionresistance(filamentationandsizingdeposit): Isthecapabilityoftherovingtomoveoverguiding pinsorinsi

33、deguidingtubeswithoutshowingchangesinrovingappearanceorinappearanceoftheguidingEN140202:2002(E) 6 devices.Changesinrovingappearancearemainlytheformationofloosefilamentsontheroving:filamentationor fuzzing.Thechangesintheappearanceoftheguidingdevicescanbethedepositofsizingatthelocationwhere therovingm

34、akescontact,thedepositofloosefilamentsorthewearoftheguidingdevice. 5.7Split,splitefficiencyandfalsesplit: Splitisthephenomenonthatarovingfallsapartintoseveralbundles. Thiscanbedoneonpurposee.g.forapplicationswheretherovingischopped.Thesesocalledsplitproductsare madeinsuchawaythatafterchoppingtherovi

35、ngfallsapartinamultiplestrands.Theratioofthenumberof strandsthatappearafterchoppingtherovingandthetheoreticalamountofstrandsthatshouldappeariscalledthe “splitefficiency”.Rovingsthatarenotmeanttofallapartintoseveralbundles(e.g.rovingsforweaving,filament windingorpultrusion)sometimesshowsplit,whichisc

36、alled“falsesplit”. 5.8Choppingandmatforming: Areaspectsofimportanceforrovingsforchoppingpurposes.Adefectduring choppingcanbeastaticrelatedbehaviourofthechoppedfibresduetothefactthattheyarechargedelectrically (resultinginchoppedstrandsthatjumpawayorsticktopartsofthecuttingdevice).Anotherdefectduringc

37、hopping canbethattherovingisnotchoppedcompletely,resultinginmultiplesofthecuttinglength(doublelengths,triple lengths,etc.).Matformingcanbecharacterisedbythethicknessofthemat,thecoarsenessofthemat(connected withstrandtex),matirregularity(connectedwithalowsplitefficiency)andtheoccurrenceof“tapes”,whic

38、hare choppedrovingsthatarepracticallynonsplittedandformthickpiecesinthemat. 5.9Impregnation: Istheabilityoftherovingtobewettedbytheresin.Adivisionshouldbemadebetweennon splitrovingsandsplitproducts(forchopping).Fornonsplitrovingsimpregnationcanbedefinedastheprocessof penetrationoftheresinthroughoutt

39、hebundle.Generallyrefractiveindicesofresinandglassarethesamesothat acompleteimpregnationcanbeobservedastherovingbecomingtransparentintheresin.Forsplitproductstwo stagesofimpregnationaredefined.Becauseofthefactthattheseproductsgenerallyarechoppedtoformamat thatisimpregnatedfromtheoutsidesofthemat,the

40、wettingthroughoutthematwithresindoesnotimplythatthe choppedstrandsinitarecompletelywetted.Thereforebothmacroimpregnation(wetthrough:wetting throughoutthematwithresin)andmicroimpregnation(wetout:wettingoftheindividualchoppedstrands)are defined. 6 Listoftestmethods Thelistofpropertieswiththeapplicable
