、oping explosion. 4 General requirements 4.1 General Automatic explosion extinguishing systems for roadheaders essentially comprise the following co-ordinated components: sensors for explosion ignition detection; extinguishing agent containers for explosion fighting; control system for monitoring the
、 individual components and their combined effect as well as the triggering of the extinguishing system (electronic control and operating unit); power supply and emergency power supply. The number and configuration of the individual components are determined by the type of machine and by the roadway
、cross-section to be protected. EN 13463-1 and EN 60079-0 shall be applied. 4.2 Functional requirements 4.2.1 General All components are to be designed for high operating reliability in accordance with the “fail-safe” principle. A high level of protection against incorrect triggering shall be ensured
、 by means of a selective response action and minimum sensitivity to external interference factors. Appropriate protection devices are to be used to protect the components from unauthorized external interventions. If the roadheader has an automatic explosion extinguishing installation, the roadheader
、 shall be equipped with a compulsory interlock. All electrical equipment shall be of class M1. The system is designed for an ambient temperature of 20 C to 40 C. A degree of protection of at least IP 54 is required. An error detection system shall be used to ensure that the components are operating
、together correctly. BS EN 14591-4:2007EN 14591-4:2007 (E) 6 4.2.2 Sensors Explosion-detection sensors shall operate on the basis of one of the physical quantities related to the event of an explosion (e.g. type of flame, radiation). In this respect, full use shall be made of the maximum response spe
、ed and sensitivity. The monitoring range of the detection sensors shall be fixed in such a way that the system only detects those events that have to be controlled. The events to be detected are explosions that have been caused by the cutter head of the roadheader machine and which are initiated in
、the vicinity of the machine, but not fires occurring outside the cutting zone. The functional reliability of the sensors shall not be impaired by local factors (dust, water/mist, construction materials, etc.). The function of the sensors shall be proven by means of a function test with a methane fla

In this respect, the following parameters have to be taken into account in particular: distance from roadhe
、ad; radial dimensions of roadway cross-section; direction of discharge relative to the cutter-arm axis. 4.2.4 Electronic control and discharge unit It shall be possible to connect at least 2 sensors to the electronic control and discharge unit. The control and discharge unit controls and monitors al
、l the electrical signals relating to the functions and safety of the systems, such as: the power supply; all the connected sensors; the storage of important system data in non-volatile memory modules; the display and operating elements; the ignition system; the automatic test routine. It shall have
、a data transmission interface to the remote monitoring unit. 4.2.5 Power supply and emergency power supply The power supply shall be designed as an emergency power supply for an operating period of at least 24 h with automatic changeover. In order to prevent spurious tripping, it shall be protected
、against interference from the supply network. BS EN 14591-4:2007EN 14591-4:2007 (E) 7 4.3 Other requirements The manner in which the components of the extinguishing system are installed on the roadheader and/or incorporated into the technical equipment of the machine shall take account of the follow
、ing factors: mechanical loading due to impact and vibration stress; minimum disruption of the normal working sequence with regard to line-of-sight obstruction, restriction of working zone, e.g. when back-cutting the face, and access to the roadhead area and to the vicinity of roadheader machine; all
、owance for mechanical equipment such as water sprays, scaffolds and mobile platforms; sufficient access for repair and maintenance work; maintenance-friendly design for routine maintenance and inspection. 5 Special requirements 5.1 General Automatic explosion extinguishing systems shall be designed
、so that they do not affect the performance or mode of operation of the roadheader. Their component parts shall not impede the cutting action (e.g. back-cutting of arches, loading, collision with loading device) or block the operators line of sight. Components shall be designed in such a way that the
、y can be replaced at the workplace, provided that this does not conflict with safety requirements. 5.2 Mechanical strength All machine and sheet-metal parts, including all strengthening and stiffening members, are to be constructed from steel which meets the requirements of EN 10025. Test certificat
、es shall be issued. When designing and manufacturing welded components, care shall be taken to ensure that notching and stress concentrations are avoided and are neutralized by appropriate measures, e.g. heat treatment and stress-free annealing. As a minimum requirement, an inspection certificate 3.
、1 according to EN 10204 shall be issued when using sheet and wide flats of high yield strength structural steels in the quenched and tempered or precipitation hardened conditions according to EN 10025. Filler metals shall meet the requirements of the appropriate European Standard and shall suit the welding method, the parent metal and the welding process. The mechanical strength shall meet the requirements of the deep mining industry. Welds and sheet-metal constructions shall be desi
