、7614:2004INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSlON _ EQUIPMENT FOR CONTINUOUS MONITORING OF RADIOACTIVITY IN GASEOUS EFFLUENTS Part 4: Specific requirements for radioactive iodine monitors FOREWORD 1) The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is a worldwide organization for standardization
、 comprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to promote international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes Inter
、national Standards. Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparat
、ion. The IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations. 2) The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
、consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all interested National Committees. 3) The documents produced have the form of recommendations for international use and are published in the form of standards, technical specifications, technical re
、ports or guides and they are accepted by the National Committees in that sense. 4) In order to promote international unification, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC International. Standards transparently to the maximum extend possible in their national and regional standards. Any diverge
、nce between the IEC Standard and the corresponding national or regional standard shall be clearly indicated in the latter. 5) The IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any equipment declared to be in conformity with one of its standards. 6)
、 Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standard may be the subject of patent rights. The IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. International Standard IEC 60761-4 has been prepared by subcommittee 45B: Radiatio
、n protection instrumentation, of IEC technical committee 45: Nuclear instrumentation. This standard shall be read in conjunction with IEC 60761-1 (2002). This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition, published in 1983, of which it constitutes a technical revision. The text of this stan
、dard is based on the first edition, and the following documents: FDIS Report on voting 45B/336/FDIS 45B/347/RVD Full information on the voting for the approval of this standard can be found in the report on voting indicated in the above table. Part 1: General requirements Part 2: Specific requirements for radioactive aerosol monitors including transuranic aerosols Part 3: Specific requirements for radioactive noble gas monitors Part 4
、: Specific requirements for radioactive iodine monitors Part 5: Specific requirements for tritium monitors 2002:416706CEISB4 EN607614:2004EQUIPMENT FOR CONTINUOUS MONITORING OF RADIOACTIVITY IN GASEOUS EFFLUENTS Part 4: Specific requirements for radioactive iodine monitors 1 Scope and object This pa
、rt of IEC 60761 is applicable to equipment intended for the simultaneous, delayed or discrete sequential measurement of radioactive iodine in all forms. When the effluent is sampled for measurement, iodine bound on aerosols is generally collected on a prefilter which should be analyzed separately in
、 a laboratory to provide a complete measurement. It is applicable to equipment designed to fulfill the following functions: the measurement of the volumic activity of iodine and compounds of radioactive iodine in gaseous effluents or of the released iodine total activity; the actuation of an alarm s
、ignal when either a predetermined concentration or a predetermined total released activity due to iodine or its compounds is exceeded. This equipment is intended for measurement over a wide range of activity in the presence of other radionuclides in the gaseous effluent, including naturally occurrin
、g radioactive nuclides. Discrimination against other radionuclides can be important in measuring low levels of radioactive iodine. This standard considers both the use of iodine collection media such as activated charcoal and the direct measurement of iodine in stacks or ventilation ducts. The objec
、t of this standard is to lay down specific standard requirements, including technical characteristics and general test conditions, and to give examples of acceptable methods for iodine monitors as defined in clause 4. The general requirements, technical characteristics, test procedures, radiation ch
、aracteristics, electrical, mechanical, safety and environmental characteristics are given in IEC 60761-1. Unless otherwise stated, these requirements apply in this standard. 2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute

However, parties to agreements based on this part of IEC 60761 are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the norm

、 of the sampling medium the time of sampling from operation with a medium to the time when the collection efficiency is equal to 90 % of the nominal value 4 Classification of iodine monitors The equipment may be classified according to the type of radiation measured as: monitors for the measurement
、of Iodine-131 only; monitors for the measurement of Iodine-125 and/or Iodine-129; monitors for the overall measurement of all iodine isotopes. It may also be classified according to the method of operation, for example: equipment with static absorption medium and simultaneous measurement; equipment
、with moving absorption medium and simultaneous measurement; equipment for the direct measurement of iodine in the stack or duct. 5 Sampling and detection assembly (where applicable) 5.1 Sampling and exhaust system In addition to the general requirements of IEC 60761-1, the following characteristics
、shall be considered and shall be agreed upon between manufacturer and purchaser: the nature of the materials used paying particular attention to iodine adsorption; regulation of the temperature of the air passages to avoid condensation of iodine or its compounds. 2002:416706CEISB6 EN607614:20045.2 Air pump The requirements of clauses 11 and 29 of IEC 60761-1 are applicable.
