9、 Page 5 I-ETS 300 2271993 Foreword This Interim European Telecommunication Standard (I-ETS) has been produced by the Transmission and Multiplexing (TM) Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). An ETSI standard may be given I-ETS status as it is regarded eith

10、er as a provisional solution ahead of a more advanced standard, or because it is immature and requires a “trial period“. The life of an I-ETS is limited, at first, to three years after which it can be converted into a European Telecommunication Standard (ETS), have its life extended for a further tw

11、o years, be replaced by a new version of the I-ETS or, finally, be withdrawn. This I-ETS concerns the functional requirements for single-mode optical fibre to be used in cables for duct, directly buried and aerial cable applications. References are made to test methods and acceptance criteria in EN

12、188 O00 141 and ITU-T Recommendations which are normative to this I-ETS (see Clause 2, “Normative references“). This I-ETS was produced in accordance with a specialised agreement on “Work Repartition and Co-operation for Standardisation concerning fibre optics“ and is part of the CEN/CENELEC/ETSI co

13、-operation agreement. The requir

14、ements take into account ITU-T Recommendation G. 652 11, “Characteristics of a single-mode optical fibre cable“. The functional requirements specified in this I-ETS refer to uncabied fibre. 2 Normative references This I-ETS incorporates by dated or undated references provisions from other publicatio

The minimum fibre length for this test should be 4 km. X depends, to some extent, on the fibre length and the pulse width. Ways to minimise such dependence are under study. X can also depend on
