、age 1 of 1 RUST PREVENTATIVE - WATER SOLUBLE - ESA-M7C62-A BIODEGRADABLE NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification defines the material and performance requirements for water soluble rust preventatives. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for materials used to p
、rovide corrosion protection for cast iron disc brake rotors during short-term storage and shipment. The material is mildly alkaline, water soluble, and biodegradable. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys
、 Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 AS RECEIVED 3.1.1 The material provided to this specification shall be completely miscible with water. 3.1.2 The material shall be biodegradable. It shall contain no phosphates, silicates, or nitrates. 3.1.3 pH 9.5 - 10.5 (ASTM E
、70) 3.1.4 Specific gravity 1.05 +/- 0.03 (ASTM D 891) 3.2 AS USED Corrosion resistance, min 96 h Test Method: Section each rotor into 8 wedge-shaped pieces. Wash the rotor sections with hexane. Polish the braking surface with 600 grit silicon carbide paper to smooth the surface. Rewash with hexane.
、Wipe dry and film-free with lint-free cloth. Wet the braking surface with 1 ml of the solution to be tested (spread uniformly). Each solution shall be tested in triplicate. Place the samples in a glass container (desiccator suggested) maintained at 90% RH per ASTM E 104 Method A, and at 32 C (90 F)
、constant temperature. Do not mix different solutions or concentrations in the same glass container. Observe braking surfaces at 2, 4, 6 and 24 hours. Report the hours until the first appearance of red rust on each section. If no red rust is observed on the braking surfaces at 24 hours, continue test, checking every 24 hours thereafter. Terminate at red rust or as required by specification. When complete, rinse the rotor surface with hexane and record any staining. Also, report the refractive index of the solution used to maintain constant humidity.
