2、SULATOR ESB-M17H150-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The materials defined by this specification are composed of 100% aramid fibers. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used as a thermal insulator in load bearing areas for 1983 Light Truck and Bronco floor

3、pans over the area of the catalytic convertor. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Pr

4、oduction Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.3 CONSTRUCTION The fibers shall be needled and shall not separate during shipment, handling or assembly. No organic binder shall be used. 3.4 COMPOSITION 100% Aramid Denier 1-1/2 & 2 with 3/4 in-2 in staple length. 3.5 DENSITY 4.0 lb/ft3+ 20%, (ASTM C 167, exce

5、pt use -10% (64 kg/m3) sample size of 12 in x 12 in (305 mm x 305 mm) and the average thickness as measured in section 3.6 below (T1) using five samples). 3.6 COMPRESSION & RECOVERY Compression, max 20% Recovery, min 60% Test Method: Cut five, 12 x 12 in (305 x 305 mm) samples. Apply a 12 x 12 in (3

6、05 x 305 mm) platen weighing 1/2 lb (0.23 kg) to the five plied samples. Measure the height of the pile, at the center of the vertical sides. (The average of these readings is the initial thickness of the pile (T1). Apply a 5 lb. (2.3 kg) load to the center of the pile and measure again for average

7、thickness of the pile with load (T2). 9、b (26.6 N) AMD 12 lb (53.3 N) 3.9 DYNAMIC FLEX FATIGUE - For Initial Approval Only (FLTM BO 012-04, Method “B,“ 150 cycles, 60 lb or 267 N load) No separation or destruction by breakage of the fibers along the rubbing track of the simulated heel both before and after heat aging. Test Method: Prepare

10、 two, 10 x 10 in (250 x 250 mm) samples of the insulator batt. Heat age one sample for 24 h at 232 C and condition at 23 +/- 2 C for 4 h. Staple both samples adjacent to each other on a 10 x 20 in (250 x 500 mm) medium to lightweight pile carpet (ESB-M3H20 or ESB-M3H30 type). Conduct the test as ind

11、icated above, making sure the simulated heel passes over both paddings in the same stroke. 3.10 WEIGHT LOSS, max 10% Test Method: Cut a sample of material weighing approximately 4 to 5 grams. Dry the sample in a mechanically convected oven for 16 hours at 121 C. Remove from oven and immediately dete

12、rmine the weight to the nearest 0.01 of a gram using an analytic balance (W1). Place sample in a muffle furnace for 16 hours at 315 C. (Place sample on aluminum foil in furnace to prevent dirt pick-up). Remove from furnace and immediately reweigh to the nearest 0.01 of a gram (W2). Calculate the % w

13、eight loss. % Weight Loss = Wl- W2- X 100 Wl3.11 HEAT TRANSFER, Initial Approval Only (SAE J1361) Procedure “C,“ except use a constant steel plate temperature of 175 C. 14、ted copies are uncontrolled Copyright 2006, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 3 of 3 3.12 INTERNAL STRENGTH, min MD 0.12 lb/2 in (0.10 N/cm) AMD 0.20 lb/2 in (0.20 N/cm) Test Method: Cut test specimens 10 in (250 mm) x 2 in (51 mm) wide and separate the middle and across the 2 in width of one end.

15、Mount sample on an Instron equivalent tester and pull at a rate of 12 in/min (305 mm/min) for at least 6 in (152 mm length of the specimen. Values recorded shall be the average of the results of three MD and three AMD specimens. Results of each individual test specimen shall be determine as a mean a

16、verage of the high and low values indicated on the chart. 3.13 FLAMMABILITY In order to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 302, the material portions of components, and composites shall not burn, or transmit a flame across its surface, at a rate of more than 4 in (101 mm) per min.

17、 To demonstrate compliance, the sample size and method of testing shall be in accordance with FLTM BN 024-02. 3.14 PERFORMANCE - ENVIRONMENTAL AGING All materials, portions of components, and composites defined by this specification that have not been treated, modified or reformulated and exceed a m

18、ax burn rate of 3.0 (76 mm) per min as specified by the Flammability Lot Sampling Plan of FLTM BN 024-02 must be evaluated for permanency of the materials flame retardant properties per ESB-M25P3-A according to the accelerated environmental aging requirements applicable: the basic material category

19、of this particular specification. Any material, portions of components, and composites defined by this specification have been treated, modified or reformulated to conform to Flammability Lot Sample Plan of FLTM BN 024-02, regardless of max burn rate, must be evaluated for both permanency of materia

20、ls flame retardant properties and changes in mechanic chemical and physical properties per ESB-M25P3-A applicable to the basic material category of this particular specification. 3.15 FLAMMABILITY TEST PROGRAM Materials, portions of components, and composites governed by this specification must also comply with the requirements of ES-D3AB-11014-AA.
