SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a controlled, vulcanized, extruded, elastomeric butyl bonding tape with flow resistant properties. 2. APPLICATION This specification was relea

3、sed originally for material used in conjunction with primers to bond backlite and side glass to painted metal surfaces. This is not approved for “ applications, (e.g., windshield). 3. REQUIREMENTS Unless otherwise specified on the engineering drawing, all tests are conducted on 12.7 mm diameter tape

4、. The temperature variation can be +/- 1 C if it is not specified. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.3 COLOR Black 3.4 SOLIDS, min 99.0% (ASTM D 2834

5、, except heat for 3 h at 102 +/- 3 C in a mechanical convection oven. Save sample for next test). 3.5 ASH CONTENT (Solids Weight), max 40.0% The tolerance for any one supplier shall be +/- 0.2% based on the results obtained from his original approved production sample. Test Method: Place the crucibl

6、e containing the solids residue in a cool muffle furnace. Slowly heat to and maintain at 760 +/- 10 C for 1 h. Cool in a desiccator and weigh. 3.6 DIMENSION The tape dimension must be specified on the engineering drawing. 3.7 SPECIFIC GRAVITY 1.0 - 1.3 (ASTM D 297, Hydrostatic Method) The tolerance

7、for any one supplier shall be +/- 0.01 based on the results obtained from his original approved production sample. 8、to the normal and aged environmental conditions detailed in para 3.13 below. Condition for 4 h at 23 +/- 2 C and record the average of 3 instantaneous readings. 3.9 OZONE RESISTANCE, max Must meet ESB-M9P1-A (FLTM BP 101-01) 3.10 MIGRATION STAIN No migration stain Test Method: A 150 mm length of tap

9、e shall be placed in contact With the face of a 75 x 175 mm piece of white vinyl headliner fabric. The assembly shall be exposed in the fluorescent sunlamp cabinet as described in FLTM BO 115-01 for 200 h. 3.11 PAINT COMPATIBILITY No evidence of migration stain, pinholing, blistering or softening of

10、 the paint film. Test Method: A 150 mm length of tape shall be placed in contact with a 75 x 230 mm steel panel painted with white ESB-M50J100 enamel, per ESB-M2P4-A. Use current production paints as identified by the Body and Electrical Product Engineering Office. Expose the assembly to a temperatu

11、re of 88 +/- 1 C for 2 weeks. Remove the tape and examine the area directly below and adjacent to the contact area. 3.12 LOW TEMPERATURE FLEXIBILITY No cracking Test Method: Condition a 150 mm length of tape for 2 weeks at 88 +/- 1 C. Then condition the material in a cold chamber at -29 C for 4 h an

12、d bend 180 around a temperature conditioned 25 mm mandrel. 3.13 YIELD STRENGTH, 100% COHESIVE FAILURE*, min .Normal 41.4 kPa (24 h at 23 +/- 2 C) *Shallow cohesive failure (0.25 mm minimum) is permissible provided the material residue is uniformly distributed over 100% of the bonded area. Total adhe

13、sion failure to the glass or paint is not permitted, and shall be cause for rejection. . Cycled The following environments represent one cycle: 4 h at 88 C, 4 h at 37 C and 100% R.H. 16 h at -29 C, 4 h at 37 C and 100% R.H. 4 h at 88 C, 16 h at -29 C. 1 cycle, min 48.3 kPa 2 cycles, min 48.3 kPa . Florida Exposure (5%, Glass Side) 1 year 55 kP

15、a Test Method: Apply a light brush coat of the specified adhesion primer (see para 5.1) to a clean 6 x 75 x 75 mm glass plate and a clean 75 x 75 mm steel panel painted per para 3.11. Two equally spaced 13 - 16 mm diameter tapes are satisfactory. Cover the primer areas with a 75 mm length of bonding

16、 tape to form the test assembly as shown in Fig 1. Apply uniform pressure with a laboratory press or equivalent to the assembly and compress the daylight opening between the bottom of the glass and the painted surface to 5.08 +/- 0.05 mm. Maintain the pressure for exactly 1 min. Remove from the pres

17、s and condition, as specified above. Determine the yield strength of the bonded assemblies in tension by pulling in a tensile machine with a jaw separation rate of 25 mm per minute. 3.14 FATIGUE RESISTANCE, min 300,000 cycles No failure after each of the conditioning periods as listed below per FLTM

18、 BU 013-01. Painted panel preparation per para 3.11. . Normal After conditioning per FLTM BU 013-01, samples must be tested under a continuous film of water at 23 +/- 2 C. . Aged 2 weeks at 88 +/- 1 C 2 weeks water immersion at 23 +/- 2 C 2 weeks at 38 +/- 1 C at 95 - 100% R.H. All aged fatigue test

19、s are performed at -29 C . Cycled Fatigue Resistance, min 300,000 cycles Test Method: Prepare the 3 assemblies up to para 7 per FLTM BU 013-01. Remove the assemblies from the press and subject the assemblies to two environmental cycles (ref. para 3.13 for environments). Condition the assemblies to 2

20、3 +/- 2 C for 4 h prior to testing. No failure after each of the following tests, per FLTM BU 013-01. 21、dity with continuous water flow. . -29 C . Under continuous heat on the bonded area. The temperature range should be 68 C to 71 C when measured 25 mm below the center of the bonded area. Examine the primers, tape, bonded area and adhesion after the tests. Report the findings and save the assemblies

22、for inspection. 3.15 COMPRESSION CHARACTERISTICS 356 - 530 N (FLTM BU 114-01, on ES-C8AB-62030A28-A “1“ Section or 12.2 mm dia “0“ Section Tape) This will depend largely on the initial size and hardness of the tape and the tape compression height. The tape should be functionally approved for a speci

23、fic application prior to production use. See para 5.2. 3.16 REBOUND HEIGHT AND FLOW CHARACTERISTICS (FLTM BU 014-02, on 12.7 mm diameter butyl tape) . Rebound Height, max 6.35 mm (1 h at 0.7 kg load) . Flow . 24 h at 88 +/- 1 C, max 0.51 mm . 2 weeks at 88 +/- 1 C, max 1.02 mm . Height, min 5.08 mm

24、(After 24 h flow) 3.17 HEAT RESISTANCE No evidence of plasticizer migration, flow blistering or loss of adhesion when a typical yield test cell (para 3.13) is exposed to a temperature of 135 +/- 3 C for 45 min. 3.18 SPLICES Shall be readily joined to itself by finger pressure to effect a joint. (The

25、 tape may be tackified by heat, as well as by solvent wiping, rendering greater surface activity to the tape). 3.19 STORAGE STABILITY Tape must be stored away from all sources of heat such as ovens, direct sunlight, etc. The total storage period for this tape shall not exceed 9 months. Six months sh

26、all not exceed 49 C, and the remaining 3 months shall not exceed 21 C, with all storage periods and corresponding temperatures based on an intermittent and accumulative basis. 27、EABILITY OF MATERIALS Only approved, elastomeric tape and primers (glass primer ESB-M2G157-D and paint primer ESB-M2G171-D) from the same production source shall be used in conjunction with one another. 3.21 FLAMMABILITY, max 101 mm/min (FLTM BN 024-02, without the lot sampling plan) In addition, th

28、e test specimen shall not exhibit any flashing or sudden flaming on either surface in excess of the above maximum value. 3.22 RELEASE PAPER The seal assembly shall have a suitable release paper which shall be readily removed, but shall not fall off in shipping and handling. There shall be no transfe

29、r of the release agent to the tape after 6 months storage at temperatures not exceeding 32 C or accelerated storage of 14 days at 49 C. Approval of the release paper shall be predicated on storage stability and production processing feasibility. 3.24 FUNCTIONAL APPROVAL Candidate materials being eva

30、luated for initial approval to the specification shall be subjected to a production trial in an area intended for use. This trial will be conducted after all other specification requirements have been met including laboratory evaluation and engineering approval for the trial. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION
