SCOPEThis specification defines the performance requirements

2、 and processingproce dures for bright decorative coatings on interior and/or exteriortherm oplastic or thermosetting rigid plastic parts produced by vacuumdeposi tion of metals. The finish consists of an organic type base primerto provi de adhesion to the plastic substrate, a vacuum deposited metall

3、ayer to provide a bright appea rance, and an organic type clear topcoat toprotect the metallic surface.2. APPLICATIONThi s specification was released originally for plastic parts, where abr ight metallic appearance is desired. Usage shall be limited to “lowabrasion prone“ applications, due to the li

4、mited abrasio n resistance of theprotecti ve clear coat over the metallized surface. Parts subjected todirect sunlight exposure may also be finished with this process.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSupplie rs must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStand ard Q-101. A mutually a

5、cceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatist ical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONSAll test values indicated herein are based

6、 on ma terial conditioned ina control led atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relativehumidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under thesame conditions unless otherwise specified.3.3 SUBSTRATEShall be specified on the engineering drawing.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONESB-M

8、 of packaging towithstand normal handling and shipping without marring.3.6 ADHESION(FLTM BI 106-01, Method B)No flaking or chipping of the metallized coating.3.7 FLEXIBILITY AT 23 +/- 2 C(ASTM D 790 tangent, Method I,Procedure B, room temperature)No cracking when bent over the specified mandrelFlexu

9、ral Modulus of the Substrate MandrelLess than 552 MPa 13 mm552 MPa or greater 25 mm3.8 COLD FLEXIBILITY AT - 20 +/- 1 CTest Method: Condition the test specimen, 13 x 150 mm minimum size,the mandrel, and a pair of gloves for a minimum of 4 h at - 20 C. Atthe end of the conditio ning period, open the

10、lid of the freezer, puton the gloves, grasp the sample firmly at each end and bend (finishside out) as quickly as possible, 180 deg around the mandrel.No cra cking when bent over a 13 mm mandrel. Wipe thepanels with a soft cloth and examine the cloth for evidenceof co lor transfer and the paint film for evidence ofdegrad

17、ation.Shall exhibit no softening, dulling, color transfer, colorchange, blistering or s how any evidence of loss of adhesion.3.10.7 Oil ResistanceTest Method: Place app roximately 2 to 5 mL of Rotunda MotorOil (SAE 10 W 30) on the metallized coating for 1 h at 23 +/-2 C minimum. Remove the oil and w

18、ipe the surfac e with a softcloth an d examine the cloth for evidence of color transferand the paint film for evidence of degradation.Shall exhibit no softening, dulling, color transfer, colorchange, blistering or s how any evidence of loss of adhesion.3.10.8 Resistance to Scuffing, min 5000 cycles(

19、FLTM BN 108-04, scuff heat “A“under a 0.91 kg load)No cracks in the finish transverse to the direction ofmotion, and no removal of the topcoat.Slight circular scratch es in the direction of motion are notconsidered evidence of failure.3.11 WEATHERING RESISTANCE3.11.1 Florida Exposure 24 months on(Mi

20、ami area, facing south standard rackat 5 deg from horizontal)In o rder to monitor interim durability, a panel shall beexposed for 12 mos in F lorida concurrently with the 24 monthpanel.Returned, completed Florida exposure panels shall be washedin t heir entirety with a soft foam pad using a 25 % For

21、dM-1034 Soap solution. Next, the panels are rinsed with tapwater, blown dry with clean compressed air, and then placedin a deionized water bath for 16 h per FLTM BI 1 04-01. Afterpanels are removed from water bath and thoroughly blown dry,the parts must meet the requirements of paragraph 3.7.ENGINEE

23、This procedure is performed only after the panels have beenpreviously washed and subjected to water immersion andparagraph 3.7 have been completed.The panels shall show n o more evidence of chalking, dulling,fad ing or other color change than the established limits.Also the panels shall be free from

24、 cracking and microcheckingwhen examined with the aid of a light source suc h as a BerkeyColortran Multi-10A Lamp, Model 100-302 using a Sylvania 120VFBY bulb. Any evidence of such cracking or microchecking isconsidered to be a failure.NOTE : The performance rating assigned to a completed 24months F

25、lorida exposure panel takes precedence over a panelof the same material exposed for 1000 h per para graph 3.11.2.3.11.2 Accelerated Exposure, min 1000 h(FLTM BO 101-01 withXenon Weatherometer)After parts are removed from the apparatus and blown dry,they must meet the requirements of paragraph 3.7 .T

Dulling, chalking, or fading shall not exceedestablished limits.3.12 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSSpecific requirements for materials and or manufactured parts shallbe specified on the engineering drawing, engineering partsspecificatio

27、n and or pe rformance specifications. All critical areaswith respect to these properties shall be designated on theEngineering drawing.3.13 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inal l characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally

28、 granted.Pri or to making any change in the properties, composition,constr uction, color, processing or labeling of the materialorig inally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchange s affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequir ements, the Supplier shall notify Pu

29、rchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. 31、the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMat erials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresp onsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approvalof thei r materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffec ted Purchasing, Design and Materials

32、Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity its own laboratory rep ort to the specification (test results, notnominal values), the materials designation and code number, and testvalues) ,the material will be added to the Engineering Material ApprovedSource List.
