SCOPEThe ma terial defined by this speci

2、fication is a primer surfacer with goodadhesion and enamel holdout prop erties when applied to reinforced polyesterplastic surfaces.2. APPLICATIONTh is specification was released originally for material used as a primersurfacer for glass reinforced polyester plastics. Subseq uently, an exteriorename

3、l color coat is generally applied.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSup pliers must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStandard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedthe rein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatistical tools must be used to ana

4、lyze process /product data so thatvariation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONSAll test values indicate d herein are based on material conditioned ina controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidityfor not le ss than 24 h prior to te

5、sting and tested under the sameconditions unless otherwise specified.3.3 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS3.3.1 SubstrateTest plaques should be re presentative of the actual part withrespect to composition and molding conditions.3.3.2 Substrate PreparationThe s urface to be painted shall be cleaned by an a

7、ded bake time and temperature.Low Film 10 - 15 micrometreNormal Film 20 - 30 micrometreHigh Film* 45 - 55 micrometre*For high film apply approximately 25 micrometres of primer,bake to cure, and apply second coating of 25 micro metres, baketo cure.3.3.4 Simulated Electrocoat OverbakeOne set of panels

8、 should be exposed to a post bake of 60minutes at 185 C before primer surfacer is applied.3.3.5 Primer Surfacer and TopcoatPrime r: Apply 20 - 30 micrometres of the primer surfacerintended to be used on the finished part. Cure primersurfacer per the high and low cure conditions as s tated in theprim

9、er surfacer specification. Record time and temperatureson the back of the panels.Top coat: Apply 20 - 30 micrometres of currently releasedbasecoat and 30 - 45 micrometres of clearcoat. Cure permanufacturers suggested time and temperature.3.4 APPEARANCE3.4.1 LevelingThe primer film shall level with a

10、 minimum of orange peel.The surface of the material under test shall be equal to orbe tter than current approved production material forsmoothness when applied a nd baked under identical conditions.3.4.2 HoldoutThere shall be no evidence of dulling or strike-in when enamelcolor c oat is applied over

11、 sanded and unsanded primersurfacer, and no difference in gloss of the color coat betweensanded and unsanded primer. 12、RTIES3.5.1 Hand Sanding CharacteristicsThe primer, when applied and baked as outlined in para 3.3.1shall water sand (using a new sheet of 400 grit paper foreach pa nel) smoothly without clogging the paper and with aminimum of sand scratches . The material shall be equivalentin all respects to curren

13、t approved production pri mer appliedand tested under identical conditions.3.5.2 Adhesion, max Grade 1(FLTM BI 106-01, Method B)Tes t material versus current approved production primer.Both primer adhesion to plastic and enamel adhesio n to sandedor unsanded primer shall be satisfactory.3.5.3 Electr

14、ical Conductivity, min 125(Ransburg Electro-Coating Corp. Model236 Sprayability Meter or equivalent)3.5.4 Cure ResponseA graph shall be develope d of time versus temperature to mapout t he cure response of the system. The graph shouldinclude the regions of full cure, marginal cure, n o cure, andover

The method used to detect the cure shall be ofthe primer suppliers choice and should be stated on thegraph.3.6 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES3.6.1 Chip Resistance, min(SAE J400)Chipping shall not exceed Figure 5B for either size orfrequency.3.6.2 Water Immersion, min 240 h(FLTM BI 104-01)Remov e plaqu

16、e from water and immediately scribe an “X“throu gh the finish to the substrate. Dry the scribed areawith a paper towel, cloth, or air (oil and moistur e free) andimmediately apply with firm thumb pressure, a mini mum of 1300mm2 of 3M #898 tape. Remove the tape by pulling one end ata 90 degree angle

17、at moderate speed.The following conditions shall be basis for rejection:. Removal of paint beyond 1.6 mm from any scribe line. 18、rmal Shock Resistance(FLTM BI 107-05)Shall exhibit no blistering or loss of adhesion.3.6.4 Thermal Cycle(SAE J2100, para 4.8 Thermal Cycle)Pan els shall be prepared in accordance with para 3.5 andscribed with an “X“ to substrate prior to exposure.Test Acceptance Criteria: The paint surface shall not

19、exhibit coating delamination, cracking, checking, blistering,fading, or chalking by the end of the exposure period.3.7 WEATHERING REQUIREMENTSPanels prepared in accordance with para 3.5 and scribed with an “X“to substrate shall be exposed as follows:3.7.1 Florida Exposure (Miami area)12 months at 5

20、degrees direct facing south.3.7.2 Accelerated Weathering: Xenon Arc Weather-o-meter(SAE J1960, 1000 h)Test Acceptance Criteria: The paint surface shall notexhibit coating delamination, cracking, checking, blistering,fading, or chalking by the end of the exposure period.The Florida exposure panel tak

21、es precedence over a panelexposed in the accelerated weathering test.3.7.3 Adhesion After WeatheringPanel should be placed in a water immersion tank per para3.6.2 for 24 h and tested for adhesion.3.8 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll mat erials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inall chara

23、n, whether or not suchchan ges affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequ irements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obt ain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data,

24、 tes t samples and a new code identification areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions im posed by law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMa

25、terials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppl iers desiring approval oftheir materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffe cted Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest , the Supp

26、lier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivi ty a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by aqualified and authorized representative of the tes t facility, demonstratingfull compliance with all the requirements of this specification (testresults, not nominal values)

27、, the material designa tion and code number, andtest specimens for Ford evaluation. Fords engineering approval of amaterial will be based on its performance to this specification and on anassessment of suitability for intended processes and/or applications. Uponapproval, the material will be added t

28、o the Engineering Material ApprovedSource List.5. GENERAL INFORMATIONThe information below is provided for clarification and assistance inmeeting the requirements of this specification.5.1 GENERAL DATAThe sup plier shall report the following physical properties of theprimer with the initial submission:Generic CompositionViscosityPercent Solids (in the can and as applied)Percent Volitile Organic Compounds
