、of 1 RUST PREVENTIVE COMPOUND ESB-M7C29-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a solvent cut, rust preventive. It dries to an adherent, soft, dry film and is highly resistant to water, salt spray, high humidity, and extremes of temperature. 2. APPLICAT
、ION This specification was released originally for material used to protect ferrous metal surfaces against corrosion during extended outdoor or indoor storage, shipment or service. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 SPECIFIC GRAVITY, min 0.870 (ASTM D 1298) 3.2 FLASH POINT, min 38 C (ASTM D 92) 3.3 SOLVENT CONTENT
、, max 60% 3.4 COLOR Dark amber 3.5 FLOW POINT, min 113 C Test Method: The top half of a clean steel panel shall be dipped in the rust preventive compound, removed, and allowed to dry in a vertical position for 16 hours at 23 C +/- 2 C. A thin line shall be drawn across the panel 1/8 in. (3.0 mm) bel
、ow and parallel to the bottom edge of the coating on the panel. The panel shall be suspended vertically, coated side up, in an oven at 116 +/-2 C for one hour, removed and examined for evidence of flow as indicated by any part of the bottom edge of the coating approaching the reference mark. Evidenc
、e of flow will be considered as failure. 3.6 STAINING AND SOFTENING The material shall not stain nor soften automotive enamels. Test Method: One-half of a current standard white painted panel shall be immersed in the rust protective solution, removed, and placed in an oven for 16 hours at 43 C +/- 1
、 C. Remove 1/2 the rust preventive by wiping with a naphtha saturated cloth. Examine for visual stain and any softening of the paint, discernible by finger scratch. Place in sunlamp cabinet as described in FLTM BU 105-01 for 16 hours and re-examine. 3.7 SALT SPRAY RESISTANCE At a 4.0 mil (0.1 mm) thickness, the material shall withstand 500 hours salt spray with no evidence of rusting of the steel panel.
