3、3-A4 WAX TYPE - HEAT RESISTANT - HIGH SOLIDS NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The materials defined by these specifications are solvent-based, wax rust preventive compounds, which air dry to provide tack free films with good resistance to water, salt spray, humidity and temperature extremes. 2

4、. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally for materials used for application to the inner surfaces of doors, quarter panels, etc., to provide supplemental corrosion protection. ESB-M7C53-A and ESB-M7C53-A3 are air dry materials and cannot be baked. ESB-M7C53-A2 and ESB-M7C53-A4 wil

5、l withstand a 149 C temperature and can be applied in the assembly plant after the prime oven and prior to the enamel oven. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Mater

6、ials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 COMPOSITION 3.1.1 Non-Volatile, min (FLTM BI 102-01) ESB-M7C53-A 38% ESB-M7C53-A2 38% ESB-M7C53-A3 55% ESB-M7C53-A4 55% 3.1.2 Exempt Solvent The volatile portion shall not be photochemically reactive as defined below: A photochemically reactive solvent is any solvent with

7、an aggregate of more than 20% of its total volume composed of the chemical compounds classified below or which exceeds any of the following individual percentage composition limitations, referred to the total volume of solvent: ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M7C53-A/A2/A3/A4 Copyright 2012,

A combination of aromatic compounds with eight or more carbon atoms to the molecule except ethylbenzene - 8%. . A combina

9、tion of ethylbenzene, ketones having branched hydrocarbon structures, trichloro-ethylene or toluene - 20%. 3.1.3 Specific Composition 3.1.3.1 Volatile Portion Suppliers shall furnish certification of conformance to para 3.1.2 of this specification to Ford Motor Company Purchasing and/or Quality Cont

10、rol. 3.2 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 3.2.1 Weight per Volume, min 0.84 kg/L (FLTM BI 102-02) 3.2.2 Flash Point, min 9 C (ASTM D 93) 3.2.3 Viscosity 3.2.3.1 For ESB-M7C53-A & ESB-M7C53-A2 20 +/- 5 s (#4 Ford Cup at 24 C) 3.2.3.2 For ESB-M7C53-A3 & ESB-M7C53-A4 1400 - 2200 (ASTM D 1824, No. 5 spindle, mPa.s 2

11、0 rpm) Note: Material is supplied ready for use with no reduction required. 3.3 PANEL PREPARATION Apply 50 +/- 5 micrometre dry film thickness of the material to the following substrates: . Unpolished, CRCL, steel panels which have been lightly oiled with M99C47, Mineral Oil - Light. . WSB-M1A250-C3

12、, 60G60-EL galvanized steel. . Bake ESB-M7C53-A2 and ESB-M7C53-A4 panels 30 min at 149 C. Air dry all panels for 72 h prior to testing for resistance properties. 13、1 Color Aluminum, unless otherwise specified on engineering drawing. 3.4.2 Film Thickness, min 50 micrometre (FLTM BI 117-01) Test panel shall be conditioned for 4 h min below -18 C before measuring film thickness. 3.4.3 Drying Time The ESB-M7C53-A and ESB-M7C53-A3 shall air dry sufficiently within

14、ten minutes at 21 +/- 3 C to permit handling without injuring the coating. The ESB-M7C53-A2 and ESB-M7C53-A4 shall dry sufficiently during the enamel oven bake to permit assembly operations when cooled to room temperature. 3.5 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Heat Resistance ESB-M7C53-A and ESB-M7C53-A3

15、shall exhibit no evidence of flowing after exposure to 30 min at 93 C. ESB-M7C53-A2 and ESB-M7C53-A4 shall exhibit no evidence of flowing after exposure to 30 min at 149 C. Test Method: The top half of a clean steel panel shall be coated with 50 +/- 5 micrometre dry film thickness of the aluminum wa

16、x compound and allowed to condition for 16 h at 22 +/- 3 C. A thin line shall be drawn across the panel 3 mm below and parallel to the edge of the coating. The panel shall be suspended vertically, with the coated end up, in an oven at 93 +/- 2 C for ESB-M7C53-A and ESB-M7C53-A3 or 149 +/- 2 C for ES

17、B-M7C53-A2 and ESB-M7C53-A4, for 30 min. Remove and examine the panel. Any evidence of flow beyond the reference line will be considered failure. 3.5.2 Corrosion Resistance, min 500 h There shall be no evidence of rusting or pitting over the entire surface of the panel and no more than 3 mm rust cre

18、epage from a line scribed to bare metal, when tested per FLTM BI 103-01. 3.5.3 Stain Resistance The materials shall not stain production body enamels. Test Method: One-half of a panel painted with current production white enamel and one-half of another panel coated with a current production light bl

19、ue basecoat/ clearcoat shall be coated with the rust preventive compound (approximately 38 micrometre film thickness) and exposed for 16 h at 43 +/- 1 C. After heat exposure, the panel shall be allowed to cool and a portion of the rust preventive film removed with M14J147 Naphtha. Examine for visual

20、 stain and any softening of the enamel discernable by finger scratch. Place the panel in a sunlamp cabinet as described in FLTM BU 105-01 for 16 h and re-examine. 21、The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 FLAMMABILITY This material represents a potential fire hazard. The Manufacturing Engineering Department shall notify both the Plant Security and the Safety Units of its presence in the Plant to assure that proper fire precautions are provided. The location in which it is used or stored shall be included in the notification.
