2、ecification establishes the performance and produ ct requirements foran automotive fuel system cleaner.2. APPLICATIONThi s specification was released originally for material used to cleancontam inants from electronic fuel injector units and combustion chambers.This speci fication is not intended to
3、limit the cleaner to any specificmaterial or material system, but rather defines the performance of theentire system.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSupplie rs must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStand ard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is requ
4、ired for material/source approval. Appropriatestatist ical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/ortherma l ana
5、lysis of material/parts supplied to this specification.The IR spectra and thermograms established for i nitial approval shallconst itute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at thedesignated material laboratory. All samples sha ll produce IR spectraand thermograms that correspond to the
6、reference standard when testedunder the same conditions.3.3 The cleaner must have sufficient volatility and octane to maintainsmooth engine operation without knocking or stalling. Although nota requirement, it is preferred that the pressuri zed cleaner system bedesigned such that vehi cle fuel lines
7、 can be disconnected during theuse of the cleaner.3.4 Must clean up the electronic fuel injectors 100 %.3.5 Mus t demonstrate significant cleanup of combustion chamber intakeval ves and induction system in testing approved by Ford Productengineering.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONESE-M14P17-AWP 3
8、948-b Page 2 of 4 3.6 Must be compatible with automotive fuel and fuel system materials.It shal l not have any detrimental effects on the metals, plastics,rubber, or gasket materials of the fuel system or adversely affecttheir function, or damage any internal part of the engine.3.7 Shall have no det
9、rimental effect on engine emissions or engineemissions components, including catalyst efficiency.3.8 Provisions of this spec ification are applicable when cleaner is usedaccording to labeling directions, unless otherwise stated.3.9 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIESSpecific chemical and physical prope
10、rties are not specified in para3.9, but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued tocover each approved material. The selected engineering approvedsou rce shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical propertiesalong with the production tolerance limits that apply to themateria l(s)
11、 upon which approval was given. The agreed upon valuesand limits will be issu ed to Quality Control by the affected productenginee ring office. These values will then be used by QualityContro l for ongoing quality verifications. The Quality ControlSupplement is an integral requirement of this sp eci
12、fication. If morethan one source supplies material to this specification, a QualityControl Supplement will be issued for each specific approvedmaterial.3.10 LABELING3.10.1 Provisions of this specification are applicable when materialis used according to labeling directions. Any precautionsinvolved i
13、n the use of the material must be clea rly stated onthe product label.3.10.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply wit h the FederalHazardous Substances Act, all applicable regulationspromulgated thereunder or under the Consumer Product SafetyAct (see especially 16 CFR 1500.3(b) (12), 1500.3(
14、c) (9),1500.3(c) (10), 1500.125 and 1500.132) and all otherapplicable federal, sta te and local statutes, ordinances andre gulations. 15、all certify in writing to Ford Motor Company thatthe comp osition of his product has been examined, that thelabel recommended is in compliance with the Fede ral HazardousSubstances Act, all applicable regulations promulgatedthereunder or under the Consumer Product Safety Act, and alloth er applicabl
16、e federal, state and local statutes,ordinances and regulations, and shall guarantee, in writingwhich contains the name and address of Supplier and is signedby Supplier or an authorized agent of Supplier, that nopro duct shipped or otherwise delivered by Supplier at anyti me to Ford Motor Company, or
17、 on its order, is, as of thedate of such shipment or delivery, misbranded or bannedwi thin the meaning of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act(see Section 5(b) (2) thereof, and 16 CFR 1500.213).Completed Material Health and Safety Data Sheets andHaza rdous Substance Data Sheets must be submitted by
18、theSupplier to the Ford Motor Company toxicologist.3.10.4 If applicable, Supplier shall furnish a copy of thelaboratory report wherein the product was evalua ted under theprocedures required by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.3.10.5 Supplier must furnish detailed application instructions andspe
19、cific usage information for container labels. Thisport ion of the label information must be approved by theaffected product engineering office.3.10.6 If the label submitted by the Supplier contains anyadvertising claims, sui table corroborative testing data mustalso be furnished. Such claims and dat
20、a are encouraged.3.11 MARKING3.11.1 Containers and cartons must be marked with a code indicatingsource and compounding date of the material. Supplier mustfurnish this code to the affected product engine ering office.Container marking may be waived if approved in w riting by theaffected product engin

22、e pac kaging of the material to which this specification appliesshall conform with all applicable requirements of the PoisonPrevention Packaging Act and regulations thereunder (see especially16 CFR 1700.14(a) (11).3.13 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equi
23、valent inal l characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Pri or to making any change in the properties, composition,constr uction, color, processing or labeling of the materialorig inally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchange s affect the materia
24、ls ability to meet the specificationrequir ements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, t est samples and a new code identification areto
25、 be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WS S-M99P9999-A1, unlessa different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineeringdo
26、cument for the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMat erials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresp onsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approvalof thei r materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffec ted Purchasing, Design and
27、 Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity its own laboratory rep ort to the specification (test results, notnominal values), the material designation and code number, and testspecim ens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, the material will be addedto the Engineering Material Approved Source List.
