2、ENAMEL, AIR DRY, ENGINE, EXEMPT SOLVENTS ESE-M1J61-C NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an air dry, engine enamel containing non-photochemically reactive hydrocarbon solvents for conformance to air pollution control requirements. 2. APPLICATION This

3、specification was released originally for enamel used to paint the engine and engine accessories where water, humidity, salt spray, gasoline, oil, ethylene gylcol and moderate heat resistance is required. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part

4、producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 COMPOSITION 3.1.1 Vehicle The vehicle shall be an alkyd resin suitably modified to obtain the desired resistance properties. 3.1.2 The pigment shall be balanced and blended so that the finishe

5、d enamel matches the Ford Motor Company master panel in color and luster and meets the requirements of this specification for durability. 3.1.3 Non-Volatile Solids, % (FLTM BI 102-01) All Metallic Colors, min 32 Black and Dark Colors, min 36 Colors with Organic Pigment, min 36 Light Colors (over 80%

6、 TiO2in pigment), min 40 Pure Chrome Colors, min 44 3.1.4 Volatile Solvents These hydrocarbon solvents shall not be photochemically reactive, as defined below: A photochemically reactive solvent is any solvent with an aggregate of more than 20% of its total volume composed of the chemical compounds

A combination of hydrocarbon

8、s, alcohols, aldehydes, esters or ketones having an olefinic or cycloolefinic type of unsaturation - 5% . A combination of aromatic compounds with eight or more carbon atoms to the molecule except ethylbenzene - 8% . A combination of ethylbenzene, ketones having branched hydrocarbon structures, tric

9、hloroethylene or toluene - 20% Whenever any organic solvent or any constituent of an organic solvent may be classified from its chemical structure into more than one of the above groups of organic compounds, it shall be considered as a member of the most reactive chemical group, that is, that group

10、having the least allowable percent of the total volume of solvents. Suppliers shall furnish certification of compliance to these requirements for any shipment, upon request by the responsible Ford purchasing agent and/or plant coordinator for air pollution control. 3.1.6 Toxicity The enamels shall n

11、ot contain any benzol (benzene) chlorinated or other toxic compounds, or hydrolyzable chlorine derivatives, or have an obnoxious or objectionable odor. 3.2 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 3.2.1 Viscosity 19 - 21 s (FLTM BI 111-01) 3.2.2 Storage Stability (FLTM BI 102-03) The viscosity shall not increase more th

12、an 15 s. The material shall not jell or liver upon standing. 3.2.3 Settling, min 8 (ASTM D 1309, Modified) The test procedure is modified using a 125 mL glass container and rated with a 25 g spatula. Record level of settling from bottom of container. 3.3 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS Prepare clean stee

13、l panels in accordance with FLTM BI 103-02, Method “E“, and clean cast iron panels per FLTM BI 003-07, FLTM thickness 1 - 1.5 mils (26 - 38 m) and 19 - 21 s viscosity. Panels shall be prepared by air drying at 23 +/- 2 C for 24 h. 3.4 APPEARANCE Color and Gloss Shall match Ford Motor Company master

ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONESE-M1J61-CCopyright 2012, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 3 of 4 3.5 FILM PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Drying This material shall air dry or force dry within the manufacturing cycle to be used by each individual supplier plant. 3.5.2 Hiding Power 3.5.2.1 Wet Hiding,

15、Non-metallics (FLTM BI 101-01) 19 s viscosity (if necessary, reduce with non-photochemically reactive paint solvent), wedge constant 0.002 in (0.05 mm) for black and 0.007 in (0.18 mm) for all other colors. Red or Maroons, max 14 Chrome and 11 others, max 10 3.5.2.2 Dry Hiding, Metallics (FLTM BI 10

16、1-03) 19 - 21 s viscosity, complete hiding at a dry film thickness of 0.0010 in (26 m). 3.5.3 Quality Production shipments shall be equivalent to approved purchased sample in laboratory and production tests. This includes sprayability, mottling, flow-out, film thickness, hiding, hold out, adhesion,

17、streaking, gloss and freedom from dirt and seed. 3.6 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES Panels are prepared per para. 3.3 and immediately tested after 24 h air drying. Cast iron panels for salt spray only. 3.6.1 Water Immersion (FLTM BI 104-01) 24 h, min No blisters. 72 h, min No blushing. Slight color or gloss

18、change permitted. 3.6.2 Humidity 95 - 100% R.H. and 38 +/- 1 C, 48 h min, no blushing or corrosion. Maximum blisters, ASTM D 714, #8 medium dense. 19、logies, LLC Page 4 of 4 3.6.3 Salt Spray (FLTM BI 103-01, no scribe) 24 h, min (Clean Cast Iron), no blisters and slight rust (ASTM D 610, type I #9-1 min) 72 h, min (Clean Steel), no blisters, rust or creep. Disregard any failures within 1/4 in (6.0 mm) from the edges of the panel. 120 h, min (Clea

20、n Steel), wait 24 h at room temperature after exposure, no flaking. 3.6.4 Gasoline Resistance No blisters and only slight softening or dulling when subjected to immersion in M-14J502-A(F) non-photochemically reactive petroleum naphtha for 1 h at 23 +/- 2 C. 3.6.5 Hot Oil Resistance No blistering, du

21、lling and only slight softening, when subjected to immersion in current initial fill engine oil at 65 +/- 3 C for 1 h. 3.6.6 Ethylene Glycol Resistance No blistering and slight softening or dulling when subjected to immersion in 50 -50 solution of water and current initial fill radiator fluid for 1

22、h at 23 +/- 2 C. 3.6.7 Heat Resistance - Circulating Air Oven There shall be no blistering or peeling of the paint film. The production material shall not have a color change greater than the original panels approved by the affected product engineering office. 3.6.7.1 1 h at 205 +/- 3 C. 3.6.7.2 8 h

23、 at 149 +/- 3 C; then 16 h at 23 +/- 2 C, 5 cycles. 3.7 RECLAIMED PAINT When the sludged material is reclaimed, each batch must be tested and conform to the specification. The shipping container of the reclaimed paint must be labeled “Reclaimed ESE-M1J61-C“ with the identification of the plant from

24、where the sludged material was received. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 FLAMMABILITY AND/OR TOXICITY This material represents a potential fire and/or health hazard. The Manufacturing Engineering Department must notify both the plant security and the safety personnel of its presence in the plant to assure that proper fire and/or health precautions are provided. The location in which it is used or stored must be included in the notification.
