2、of 1 PHOSPHATE CALCIUM/ZINC MODIFIED COATING PLUS OIL ESE-M3P34-A 1. SCOPE This specification defines requirements for a calcium zinc phosphate plus lubricant type finish for fasteners. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for connecting rod, side block and main bearing cap bolt

REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 COL

4、OR Parts shall be uniform black or dark gray color. 3.3 SALT SPRAY RESISTANCE (ASTM B 117) Must withstand 16 h salt spray without showing rust on significant surfaces. Traces of rust on non-significant surfaces (threads, sharp edges and holes) does not constitute failure. 3.4 LUBRICANT FINISH Parts

5、shall be evenly coated with lubricant and shall not be oily or tacky to the touch. The coating shall not be excessive in thickness to the point of interfering with assembly or automatic feeding devices. 3.5 PHOSPHATE, min 32 g/m23.6 CLEANING PRIOR TO PHOSPHATING Steel parts containing 0.35% carbon o

6、r more at the surface, or heat treated from Rockwell C 30 to 39, shall be cleaned using the principles defined in ASTM B 242, “Preparation of High Carbon Steel for Electroplating.“ Steels containing less than 0.35% carbon at the surface, or lower than Rockwell C 30 in hardness, shall be cleaned usin

7、g the principles defined in ASTM B 183, “Preparation of Low Carbon Steel for Electroplating“. Steel parts heat treated to Rockwell C 39 or higher shall not be electroplated. 3.7 BRITTLENESS OF PHOSPHATE COATED PARTS Parts shall be free from the detrimental effects of hydrogen embrittlement or other factors which result in part brittleness. The requirements of WSS-M99A3-A apply to parts plated to this specification.
