、, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. COOLANT, HEAVY DUTY FOR DIESEL/TRACTOR - ESE-M97B18-C CONCENTRATE NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an ethylene glycol type corrosion inhibited coolant concentrate, composed essentially of mono-ethylene glycol. This
、coolant is not recommended nor intended for use in passenger cars or in light trucks. 2. APPLICATION This specification is released for material which when mixed with water, shall be a satisfactory fluid for diesel and tractor engine cooling systems. This material is for both initial fill and servic
、e use. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 QUALIFICATION The material shall be inhibited sufficiently to be satisfactory for use in t
、he cooling system. Qualification under this requirement shall be based on engine and water pump cavitation tests conducted by Ford Motor Company or a qualified independent laboratory. 3.2.1 Engine Test, min 670 h (FLTM BL 102-01) 45/55 mixture of test coolant and Detroit city water. Test is to be ru

Coolant samples taken at specified intervals shall meet the following limits: pH, min 7.3 Reserve Alkalinity, max 25.0% decrease If engine components at the conclusion of the test exhibit any evidence of significant corrosion or attack, the coolant shall be considered unsatisfactory r

、shall have a freezing point of -37 C maximum. The freezing point is defined as the maximum temperature obtained after beginning of crystallization. The undercooling must not exceed 1 C. 3.3.7 Foaming 5 s for “eye“ to appear Test Method: Pour 250 mL of 30% solution of the material with distilled wate
、r into a 500 mL glass stoppered graduate. Place in an oven at 70 C until the solution reaches 70 C. Remove from oven and shake the graduate for 1 min with one up and down stroke every 2 or 3 s. Place on bench with stopper removed. Time with a stop watch until an “eye“ appears. The term “eye“ refers
、to a condition which exists when the surface of the liquid can be seen through the foam. 3.3.8 Compatibility All coolants submitted to this specification shall be compatible with all coolant previously approved under this specification. 4. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarfication and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. The intent of this specification is to provide the basis for a no silicate or a low silicate coolant similar in composition to GM 6038-M but not as restrictive.
