SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an ethylene glycol type corrosion inhibited coolant concentrate composed essentially of monoethylene glycol. 2. APPLICATION This specif

3、ication is released for material which, when mixed with water, shall be a satisfactory fluid for automotive engine cooling systems which contain aluminum engine components and aluminum radiators as well as brass and ferrous components. This material is for both initial fill and service use. 3. REQUI

4、REMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 INITIAL QUALIFICATION The qualification testing will be run in three phases. The requirements of each pha

5、se, in order, must be met completely or material testing on subsequent phases will not be performed. 3.2.1 Phase I - Laboratory Material Performance 3.2.1.1 Glassware Corrosion (ASTM D 1384) Weight Loss, max . 8、ant and the approved coolant with equal parts of corrosive water (as described in ASTM D 1384). Mix 100 mL of the candidate coolant solution with 100 mL of the approved coolant solution in a 250 mL beaker. Heat the mixture to 90-95 C. Cover, remove from the heat and let stand 16-24 h at room tempera

9、ture in the absence of light. There shall be no precipitation or separation into phases. Slight cloudiness or separation that does not completely cover the surface of the liquid shall be acceptable. 3.2.1.8 Storage Stability Must pass test The coolant shall form no permanent gel when tested by the f

10、ollowing method. Place at least 60 mL of coolant concentrate in a bottle and cap it snugly. Put it in a circulating air oven at 65 +/- 2 C for 14 days. Remove and allow it to cool to room temperature. Examine for gelatinous precipitate. 3.2.2 Phase II 3.2.2.1 Aluminum Cylinder Head Heat - Transfer C

16、 check the condition of the coolant and cooling system at least every two months. Record mileage, date, condition and appearance, amount of make-up coolant used, etc. Test is to be run until at least 50% of the vehicles have completed 36,000 miles each during a minimum period of nine months and the

17、remaining vehicles have run a minimum of 24,000 miles. Results: Aluminum water pump and aluminum cylinder head surfaces must be in as good a condition as those run with previously approved coolant. Radiator interior must not show sufficient deposits to materially affect heat exchange rate. 3.3 CHEMI

18、CAL ANALYSIS Establish reference standard for the supplier. 3.4 BATCH ACCEPTANCE (Quality Control) TEST The tests in para 3.2.1 Phase I (except delete 3.2.1.7 Compatibility) will be run for acceptance at regular intervals. In addition, para 3.3 may be run at the option of Ford Motor Company. 3.5 GLY

19、COL TYPE The glycol used to manufacture this coolant shall be primarily monoethylene glycol (1.2 ethanediol) with no more than 15 % other glycols. 3.6 The coolant supplied to this specification must not contain any nitrosamine or triethanolamine or any other compound that, in the presence of nitrate

20、 or nitrite, nitrogen oxides, or other nitrosating substance, might produce a nitrosamine. 3.7 SERVICE COOLANT The following requirements must be met for coolant for Ford Parts and Service Divi sion only: 3.7.1 Chemical and Physical Properties Specific chemical and physical properties are not speci

21、fied in para 3.7, but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued to cover each approved material. The selected engineering approved source shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical properties along with the production tolerance limits that apply to the material(s) upon which appr

22、oval was given. The agreed upon values and limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affected product engineering office. These values will then be used by Quality Control for ongoing quality verifications. The Quality Control Supplement is an integral requirement of this specification. If mor

23、e than one source supplies material to this specification, a Quality Control Supplement will be issued for each specific approved material. 3.7.2 Labeling ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESE-M97B44-A Page 5 of 6 Copyright 2002, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 3.7.2.1 Provisions of this specificati

24、on are applicable when material is used according to labeling directions. Any precautions involved in the use of the material must be clearly stated on the product label. 3.7.2.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, all applicable regulations promul

25、gated thereunder or under the Consumer Product Safety Act (see especially 16 CFR 1500.3(b) (12), 1500.3(c) (9), 1500.3(c) (10), 1500.125 and 1500.132) and all other applicable federal, state and local statutes, ordinances and regulations. Supplier shall furnish the affected product engineering offic

26、e with the label(s). 3.7.2.3 Supplier shall certify in writing to Ford Motor Company that the composition of his product has been examined, that the label recommended is in compliance with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, all applicable regulations promulgated thereunder or under the Consumer P

27、roduct Safety Act, and all other applicable federal, state and local statutes, ordinances and regulations, and shall guarantee, in writing which contains the name and address of Supplier and is signed by Supplier or an authorized agent of Suppler, that no product shipped or otherwise delivered by Su

28、pplier at any time to Ford Motor Company, or on its order, is, as of the date of such shipment or delivery, misbranded or banned within the meaning of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (see Section 5(b) (2) thereof, and 16 CFR 1500.213). Completed Material Health and Safety Data Sheets and Hazard

29、ous Substance Data Sheets must be submitted by the supplier to the Ford Motor Company toxicologist. 3.7.2.4 If applicable, supplier shall furnish a copy of the laboratory report wherein the product was evaluated under the procedures required by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. 3.7.2.5 Supplier

30、must furnish detailed application instructions and specific usage information for container labels. This portion of the label information must be approved by the affected product engineering office. 3.7.2.6 If the label submitted by the supplier contains any advertising claims, suitable corroborativ

31、e testing data must also be furnished. Such claims and data are encouraged. 32、 material. Supplier must furnish this code to the affected product engineering office. Container marking may be waived if approved in writing by the affected product engineering office. 3.7.3.2 The test report data furnished by the supplier showing compliance with this specification shall give the s

33、pecific test methods followed and shall give specific answers to generalized requirements. 3.7.4 Packaging The packaging of the material to which this specification applies shall conform with all applicable requirements of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act and regulations thereunder (see especially 16 CFR 1700.14 (a)(11).
