5、ethod: Place approximately 200 g of solder in a pyrex test tube. All foreign matter introduced in cutting or forming the solder to fit the tube must be removed. The test tube containing the solder is evacuated to a pressure of 10 micrometer of mercury or less, and the solder melted under vacuum in a
6、 bunsen flame. While the solder is molten, the tube is shaken for approximately 1 minute, in an almost horizontal position, to allow any foreign material to rise to the surface. The solder is then allowed to solidify under vacuum and the surface examined visually for dross or other foreign matter. CAUTION: Molten metal under vacuum and in a glass container is a potential hazard. The technician should wear a protective garment and face shield in the event the glass tube fractures.
