2、6-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a heat stabilized type 612 nylon, molding and extrusion resin. This material has good dimensional stability and lower moisture absorption than type 66 or 6 nylons. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released

3、originally for material used where good dimensional stability is required. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSIS Ford Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/or thermal analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification. The IR spectra and therm

4、ograms established for initial approval shall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at the designated material laboratory. All samples shall produce IR spectra and thermograms that correspond to the reference standard when tested under the same conditions. 3.2 HEAT STABILIZER A

5、DDITIVE Ford Motor Company, at its option, may conduct following heat stabilizer additive test on material/parts supplied to this specification. The stabilizer must be present. Test Method: Cut 1 g sample into small pieces. Cover pieces in a small test tube with concentrated ammonium hydroxide and l

6、et stand for 30 min with occasional agitation. Place a drop of the supernatant solution on a piece of #5 Whatman filter paper. Dry the paper at 100 C and add one drop of o-tolidine test solution* to the dried test spot. If a light blue stain develops within 10 min, the sample contains the heat stabi

7、lizing additive. Control samples of both stabilized and unstabilized resins should be run for comparison since all test spots including unstabilized controls eventually turn a bluish green. *0.1 g o-tolidine plus 0.5 g ammonium thiocyanate dissolved in 5 mL of acetone (Should be prepared fresh daily

ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESF-M4D216-A WP 3948-b Page 2 of 4 3.3 MOLDED TEST SPECIMEN The following requirements are intended for initial source qualifications, and Initial Sample Inspection Report. These will be rechecked at intervals specified by Quality Assurance. 3.3.1 Conditioning A

9、ll specimens are to be dry as molded. Dry as molded specimens are defined as specimens which immediately upon removal from mold are sealed in containers that are impermeable to water vapor (maximum specimen moisture content 0.30 %). No moisture shall be intentionally added to reach this level. Condi

10、tion specimens a minimum of 24 h in sealed containers at 23 +/- 2 C. 3.3.2 Test Conditions Conduct tests in the standard laboratory atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity. Individual specimens shall not be removed from closed containers until immediately before testing. 3.3.3 Melt

11、ing Point 207 - 221 C (ASTM D 789) 3.3.4 Specific Gravity 1.05 - 1.09 (ASTM D 792) 3.3.5 Tensile Strength, min 48.3 MPa (ASTM D 638, 50 mm/min) 3.3.6 Impact Strength, Izod, min 48 J/m (ASTM D 256) 3.3.7 Heat Deflection Temperature, min (ASTM D 648, 12.7 x 12.7 x 127 mm sample) At 0.45 MPa 149 C At 1

12、.82 MPa 57 C 3.3.8 Water Absorption, max 0.7 % (ASTM D 570, 24 h immersion of 50 x 3.2 mm disc) 3.3.9 Thermal Aging Test Five tensile bars 3.2 mm thick shall be suspended in a circulating air oven at 150 +/- 2 C for 500 h. The bars should not touch the sides of the oven. After exposure, they should

13、be kept in sealed containers until testing to prevent the absorption of water. Tensile strengths of the bars should average at least 34.5 MPa after exposure and no value should be less than 27.6 MPa. 14、tural or as specified on engineering drawing. 3.4.2 Appearance Shall be uniform in density, texture and finish, free of visible porosity, warpage, heat scorch, checks, cracks, chipped edges and uneven surfaces. They shall also be free of other contamination. 3.4.3 Additional Requirements Specific re

15、quirements for physical properties of molded or extruded parts shall be specified on the engineering drawing and/or engineering part specification. All critical areas with respect to these properties shall be clearly designated on the engineering drawing. 3.4.4 The following requirements will be use

16、d as acceptance criteria for molded parts. The tests indicated will be conducted by Ford Motor Company at its option. . Melting Point 207 - 221 C (ASTM D 789) . Specific Gravity 1.07 - 1.09 (ASTM D 792) 3.5 STATISTICAL PROCESS Suppliers must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality System Standar

17、d Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as described therein is required for material/source approval. Appropriate statistical tools must be used to analyze process/product data so that variation in the final product is continuously reduced. 3.6 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY All materials supplied to

18、 this specification must be equivalent in all characteristics to the material upon which approval was originally granted. Prior to making any change in the properties, composition, construction, color, processing or labeling of the material originally approved under this specification, whether or no

19、t such changes affect the materials ability to meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology and the affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changes and obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineering activity. Test data, test samples

20、and a new code identification are to be submitted with the request. The restrictions are defined in Engineering Materia

21、l Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1, unless a different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineering document for the application. 4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS Materials defined by this specification must have prior approval by the responsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring ap

22、proval of their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from the affected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Upon request, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineering activity its own laboratory report to the specification (test results, not nominal values), the material designation and code number, and test specimens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, the material will be added to the Engineering Material Approved Source List.
