2、EAVY DUTY DIESELS ESN-M99B169-A 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an additive for engine coolants - both 100 % water and ethylene glycol-based antifreeze solution. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material which enhances long-term protection properti
3、es, such as corrosion/sealing/cavitation protection, of coolants in heavy duty diesel engines. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 LA
4、BORATORY TESTS The following tests shall be performed using a 50:50 solution of monoethylene glycol (technical grade, free of iron and chloride, and containing less than 10 % of other glycols) and corrosive water (ASTM D 1384). This test solution shall be treated with the recommended level of the ca
5、ndidate additive. 3.2.1 Glassware Corrosion (ASTM D 1384 except solder coupons to be of high lead type with 97.5 lead/2 tin/0.5 silver composition) Weight Loss, max . Compatibility is demonstrated by passing tests listed in the preceding clauses, except substitute appropria
8、te coolant in place of monoethylene glycol. 3.2.6 Storage Stability Must pass Store the additive in a suitable container at 65 to 67 C for 20 days. The aged additive must meet all the requirements listed in the preceding clauses. 3.3 COOLING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TESTS The candidate additive shall be a
9、pproved only after successful completion of appropriate dynamometer and/or fleet tests specified by the affected product engineering office. 3.4 SERVICE ADDITIVE The following requirements must be met for coolant additive supplied to Ford Parts and Service Division only. 3.4.1 Chemical and Physical
10、Properties Specific chemical and physical properties are not specified in para 3.4, but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued to cover each approved material. The selected engineering approved source shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical properties along with the product
11、ion tolerance limits that apply to the material(s) upon which approval was given. The agreed upon values and limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affected product engineering office. These values will then be used by Quality Control for ongoing quality verifications. The Quality Control S
12、upplement is an integral requirement of this specification. If more than one source supplies material to this specification, a Quality Control Supplement will be issued for each specific approved material. 3.4.2 Labeling 3.4.2.1 Provisions of this specification are applicable when material is used a
13、ccording to labeling directions. Any precautions involved in the use of the material must be clearly stated on the product label. 14、Federal Hazardous Substances Act, all applicable regulations promulgated thereunder or under the Consumer Product Safety Act (see especially 16 CFR 1500.3(b) (12), 1500.3(c) (9), 1500.3(c) (10), 1500.125 and 1500.132), and all other applicable federal, state and local statutes, ordinances and regula
15、tions. Supplier shall furnish the affected product engineering office with the label(s). 3.4.2.3 Supplier shall certify in writing to Ford Motor Company that the composition of his product has been examined, that the label recommended is in compliance with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, all a
16、pplicable regulations promulgated thereunder or under the Consumer Product Safety Act, and all other applicable federal, state and local statutes, ordinances and regulations, and shall guarantee, in writing which contains the name and address of Supplier and is signed by Supplier or an authorized ag
17、ent of Supplier, that no product shipped or otherwise delivered by Supplier at any time to Ford Motor Company, or on its order, is, as of the date of such shipment or delivery, misbranded or banned within the meaning of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (see Section 5(b) (2) thereof, and 16 CFR 1
18、500.213). Completed Material Health and Safety Data Sheets and Hazardous Substance Data Sheets must be submitted by the supplier to the Ford Motor Company toxicologist. 3.4.2.4 If applicable, supplier shall furnish a copy of the laboratory report wherein the product was evaluated under the procedure
19、s required by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. 3.4.2.5 Supplier must furnish detailed application instructions and specific usage information for container labels. This portion of the label information must be approved by the affected product engineering office. 3.4.2.6 If the label submitted b
20、y the supplier contains any advertising claims, suitable corroborative testing data must also be furnished. Such claims and data are encouraged. 3.4.3 Marking 3.4.3.1 Containers and cartons must be marked with a code indicating source and compounding date of the material. Supplier must furnish this
21、code to the affected product engineering office. Container marking may be waived if approved in writing by the affected product engineering office. 22、e supplier showing compliance with this specification shall give the specific test methods followed and shall give specific answers to generalized requirements. 3.4.4 Packaging The packaging of the material to which this specification applies shall conform with all applicable requirements of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act and regulations thereunder (see especially 16 CFR 1700.14(a) (11).
