2、 an automotive white wall tire cleaner.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material used as a cleaneron automotive white wall tires. This specification is not intended tolimit the cleaner to any specific material or material system, but ratherdefines the performance of the e

3、ntire system.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 Shall be of such a composition that meets all requirementsdescribed in this specification.3.2 Shall have maximum cleaning efficiency with minimum time and effortwhen applied according to label instructions.3.3 Shall have no adverse effect on exterior paints, vinyl top

4、materials, rubber, chrome, aluminum, etc., if cleaned up within areasonable period of time.3.4 Shall not damage or weaken automotive tires.3.5 Shall have no objectionable odor.3.6 When used as directed, it shall not leave any film or residue onthe tire.3.7 Must be reasonably safe to apply and must m

5、eet all federal, stateand local regulations. The material must be formulated to minimizehealth hazards to the individual due to toxic or otherwiseinjurious ingredients.3.8 Must be capable of storage without any detrimental effect for anextended period of time. Supplier shall furnish all necessaryinf

6、ormation on types of material required for packaging and on thestorage life of the material in each of the product packagessupplied. For any particular size package or container for theproduct, the supplier shall furnish information on safe storagepractice and recommendations as to maximum and minim

7、um ambienttemperatures and direct sun load conditions at which the productmay be stored without any adverse effect.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESR-M14P15-AWP 3948-b Page 2 of 33.9 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIESSpecific chemical and physical properties are not specified herein,but an Enginee

8、ring Quality Control Supplement will be issued tocover each approved material. The selected engineering approvedsource shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical propertiesalong with the production tolerance limits that apply to thematerial(s) upon which approval was given. The agreed upon valu

9、esand limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affectedproduct engineering office. These values will then be used byQuality Control for ongoing quality verifications. The QualityControl Supplement is an integral requirement of thisspecification. If more than one source supplies material to th

10、isspecification, a Quality Control Supplement will be issued for eachspecific approved material.3.10 LABELING3.10.1 Provisions of this specification are applicable whenmaterial is used according to labeling directions. Anyprecautions involved in the use of the material must beclearly stated on the p

11、roduct label.3.10.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply to the FederalHazardous Substances Act and all other provisions under theConsumer Product Safety Commission and all other applicablefederal, state and local regulations. Supplier shallfurnish the affected product engineering office wit

12、h thelabel(s).3.10.3 Supplier shall furnish certification that the compositionof his product has been examined and that the labelrecommended is in compliance with the Federal HazardousSubstances Act and all other provisions under the ConsumerProduct Safety Commission. Completed Material Health andSa

13、fety Data Sheets and Hazardous Substances Data Sheetsmust be submitted by the supplier to the Ford Motor Companytoxicologist.3.10.4 If applicable, supplier shall furnish a copy of thelaboratory report wherein the product was evaluated underthe procedures required by the Federal Hazardous SubstancesA

14、ct.3.10.5 Supplier must furnish detailed application instructions andspecific usage information for container labels. Thisportion of the label information must be approved by theaffected product engineering office.3.10.6 If the label submitted by the supplier contains anyadvertising claims, suitable

15、 corroborative testing datamust also be furnished. Supplier must furnish thiscod

16、e to the affected product engineering office. Container markingmay be waived if approved in writing by the affected productengineering office.3.12 The test report data furnished by the supplier showing compliancewith this specification shall give the specific test methodsfollowed and shall give spec

17、ific answers to generalizedrequirements.3.13 Generally accepted test methods (American Society for Testing andMaterials, Society of Automotive Engineers and Ford Laboratory TestMethods are preferred) and procedures should be followed where suchmethods are known; otherwise, the methods of evaluation

18、should beexplained in detail.3.14 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYMaterial supplied to this specification must be equivalent to thatoriginally approved. Changes in formulation or processing shallnot be made without prior approval as described in SupplierProcedure I-A.4. APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERSSuppliers to thi

19、s specification must be approved by the affected productengineering office. Procedure for gaining approval of a specificmaterial to a new/existing ES-M specification is contained in SupplierProcedure I-A. Approved new suppliers will be added to the EngineeringMaterials Approved Source List.5. GENERAL INFORMATIONThis data is for information only and is not a requirement.5.1 Comparative performance data ratings utilizing the requirementsoutlined above, comparing the proposed material(s) to presentlymarketed Ford Motor Company products, are encouraged.
