SCOPEThis specification defines the performance and product requirements of anunderbody coating.This

2、 specification is not intended to limit the underbody coating to anyspecific material, but defines the performance of the entire system.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material used for underbodycoating of automotive vehicles.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 Shall be of such compositi

3、on that it will meet all requirements ofthis specification. The material must be ready-to-use and must becapable of application with airless spray equipment that is normallyavailable to all automotive dealers and Vehicle Pre-delivery ServiceCenters.3.2 Must have no detrimental effects on applied mat

4、erials, engineaccessories and/or parts of the underbody or emission systems oradversely affect their function.3.3 Must have no objectionable odor during or after application.3.4 Each supplier shall furnish specific application and dry timeinformation for the material on the label of the container.3.

5、5 Must be reasonably safe to apply and must meet all federal, state andlocal regulations. The material must be formulated to minimizeemploye health hazards due to toxic or otherwise injuriousingredients.3.6 Must meet the following specific test requirements on panels whichare prepared according to t

6、est directions:3.6.1 Sag Test (Primed Metal) 6.0 mm max in 30 min.Test Method: With 25 mm masking tape, cover a 25 mm widestrip at the lower edge of a standard cold adhesion panelprepared as follows:NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN2012 N Status No replacement named N. Immediately after spraying,remove the masking tape making a line of demarcation ofundercoating treatment. Hang

8、 the panel in a verticalposition with the 25 mm end at the bottom of 1/2 h and notesagging.3.6.2 Abrasion Resistance90% minimum retention with no exposed metal area showing.Test Method: SAE J 400, except prime CR steel panels withESB-M6J119-B and bake 20 min at 150 +/- 2EC. Spray theundercoating to

9、a wet film thickness of 0.60 - 0.90 mm. Dryper manufacturers recommendations.3.6.3 Cold AdhesionAn average of 90% retention, and no one panel shall have lessthan 70% retention:Test Method: FLTM BV 1-1, except prime CR steel panels withESB-M6J119-B and bake 20 min at 150 +/- 2EC. Spray theundercoatin

10、g to a wet film thickness of 0.60 - 0.90 mm. Dryper manufacturers recommendations. The test is conducted at-29 +/- 1EC.3.6.4 Corrosion Resistance, min 500 h, rating 7/8(ASTM B 117) (Procedure A/Procedure B)Must protect polished steel panels (scribed through to thebare metal with an “X“) from corrosi

11、on and pitting.Test Method: Spray polished steel panels uniformly with thetest material to a wet film thickness of 0.60 - 0.90 mm. Dryper manufacturers recommendations. Scribe an “X“ throughthe undercoating material to the bare metal before exposureto salt spray. After removal from salt spray, strip

12、 theundercoating material from one-half of each panel with aplastic scraper. Remove remaining residue with a suitablesolvent. Within 30 min, spray bare half of panel with aclear lacquer to prevent further corrosion. All panels usedmust be in conformance with ASTM D 609, Type I. Rate eachpanel per AS

13、TM D 1654, Procedure A and B. 14、 of 6 3.6.6 Sound Dampening (FLTM EU BV 60-1)Damping Loss Factor, min R = 0.05at 2.4 kg/m & 200 Hz 23.6.7 Drying RateShall be dry to touch after 2 h at 23 +/- 2EC.Test Method: Panels are sprayed at a wet film thickness of0.60 - 0.90 mm and allowed to air dry at 23 +/- 2EC for 2 h.There shall be no t

15、ransfer of material when lightly touchedwith the tip of the finger.3.6.8 SettlingShall not settle or separate to the extent that would requireremixing before use and must be capable of storage withoutany detrimental effect for a minimum of 2 years. Suppliershall furnish all necessary information on

16、types of materialrequired for packaging and on the storage life of thematerial in each of the product packages supplied. For anyparticular size package or container for the product, thesupplier shall furnish information on safe storage practiceand recommendations as to maximum and minimum ambienttem

17、peratures and direct sun load conditions at which theproduct may be stored without any adverse effect.3.6.9 Resistance to Flow at Elevated TemperatureShall not fall off or exude oils to the extent of dripping.Test Method: Prime CR steel panels with ESB-M6J102 and bake20 min at 150 +/- 2EC. Spray the

18、 undercoating on thesepanels at a wet film thickness of 0.60 - 0.90 mm. Air drythe panels for 24 h at 23 +/- 2EC, and place in an invertedposition in a mechanical convection oven at 107 +/- 2EC for1 h. Observations are made for falloff and oil dripping.3.6.10 Humidity Resistance, min 1000 hShall not

19、 lose adhesion and shall protect scribed polishedsteel panels from corrosion in a constant relative humidityatmosphere of 98 +/- 2% at 38 +/- 1EC.Test Method: Scribed panels prepared and evaluated as in3.6.4.NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN2012 N Status No replacement named N. 21、12 SprayabilityShall be a smooth, homogeneous mixture, free from foreignmaterials and suitable for use in airless spray equipment.It shall spray evenly and rapidly and cause no tip cloggingor fluctuations in the spray pattern with a minimum sprayback and fogging under both dealer and New Car Pre-del

22、iveryCenter conditions. The supplier shall furnish the followinginformation for spraying his material under both of the abovementioned conditions:. Range of fluid tip sizes which may be used. Range of pressures (at the tip) which may be used forspraying. Approximate coverage (number of litres per ca

23、r). Allowable operating conditions such as temperature,humidity, etc.3.6.13 Resistance to BurningPrepare panels per para 3.6.9. After 4 h air drying at 23+/- 2EC and 50 +/- 5 % humidity, there shall be no rapidflame spread, no dripping of flaming material, or excessivesmoke when subjected to the ign

24、ition sources listed below.Any flame produced must be self-extinguishing within 30 safter removal of the ignition source.A) Arc weld 2 panels together (end to end).B) Cut panel across the short dimension with an acetylenetorch.3.7 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIESSpecific chemical and physical proper

25、ties are not specified herein,but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued to covereach approved material. The selected engineering approved sourceshall furnish appropriate chemical and physical properties along withthe production tolerance limits that apply to the material(s) uponwh

26、ich approval was given. The agreed upon values and limits will beissued to Quality Control by the affected product engineering office.These values will then be used by Quality Control for ongoing qualityverifications. The Quality Control Supplement is an integralrequirement of this specification. If

28、8.1 Provisions of this specification are applicable when materialis used according to labeling directions. Any precautionsinvolved in the use of the material must be clearly stated onthe product label.3.8.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply to the FederalHazardous Substances Act and all o

29、ther provisions under theConsumer Product Safety Commission and all other applicablefederal, state and local regulations. Supplier shall furnishthe affected product engineering office with the label(s).3.8.3 Supplier shall furnish certification that the composition ofhis product has been examined an

30、d that the label recommendedis in compliance with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act,all other provisions under the Consumer Product SafetyCommission, and Southern California Air Pollution ControlDistrict Rule 443. Completed Material Health and Safety DataSheets must be submitted by the supplier t

31、o the Ford MotorCompany toxicologist.3.8.4 If applicable, supplier shall furnish a copy of thelaboratory report wherein the product was evaluated under theprocedures required by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.3.8.5 Supplier must furnish detailed application instructions andspecific usage infor

32、mation for container labels. Thisportion of the label information must be approved by theaffected product engineering office.3.8.6 If the label submitted by the supplier contains anyadvertising claims, suitable corroborative testing data mustalso be furnished. Such claims and data are encouraged.3.9

33、 MARKINGContainers and cartons must be marked with a code indicating sourceand compounding date of the material. Supplier must furnish thiscode to the affected product engineering office. Container markingmay be waived if approved in writing by the affected productengineering office.3.10 The test re

34、port data furnished by the supplier showing compliancewith this specification shall give the specific test methods followedand shall give specific answers to generalized requirements.3.11 Generally accepted test methods (American Society for Testing andMaterials. Society of Automotive Engineers and

36、8-b Page 6 of 6 3.12 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inall characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Prior to making any change in the properties, composition,construction, color, processing or labeling of the ma

37、terialoriginally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchanges affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of

38、 the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, test samples and a new code identification areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specificatio

39、n WSS-M99P9999-A1, unlessa different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineeringdocument for the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMaterials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approvalof their mate

40、rials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity its own laboratory report to the specification (test results, notnominal values), the materi

41、al designation and code number, and testspecimens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, the material will be addedto the Engineering Material Approved Source List.5. GENERAL INFORMATIONThe information given below is provided for assistance and clarificationand does not represent requirements to this specification.5.1 Comparative performance data ratings utilizing the requirementsoutlined above, comparing the proposed material(s) to presentlymarketed Ford Motor Company products, are encouraged.NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN2012 N Status No replacement named N.
