SCOPE The materials defined by these specifications are generally open hearth steel products drawn into
3、 either round or flat wire, hardened in oil and tempered to the physical characteristics given below. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally for material used in spring designs such as compression springs, torsion springs, extension springs, spring clips, etc. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3
4、.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). Part producers using this material in their products, must use Ford approved materials and must conform to a process c

10、(1170) 200(1380) 3.4 ROUND WIRE BEND AND FRACTURE TEST Wire 0.162 in (4.11 mm) and smaller in diameter shall wind on itself as an arbor without breakage. Wires having diameters 0.162 - 0.312 in (4.11 - 7.92 mm) shall wind without breakage on a mandrel twice the wire diameter. The wire shall not show

(Hardened and tempered carbon spring steel flat wire customarily produced with #1 edge.) 3.9 MANUFACTURING REQUIREMENTS Springs manufactured with this material shall be stress relieved after forming, at a temperature sufficiently h
17、igh to produce a dimensionally stable part under maximum operating temperature for specific application as specified on the engineering print. This stress relieving process shall not adversely affect the tensile strength or hardness of the material. 3.10 FINISH Wire shall be supplied to this specifi
18、cation with one of the following surface finishes unless otherwise specified. ESW-M5A5-B Black Oxide Finish: To be specified where corrosion during use is not a problem. This finish will provide a small amount of corrosion protection during shop manufacturing operations. ESW-M5A7-B Plain Oil Dipped:
19、 May be specified where corrosion resistance is not a requirement. ESW-M5A5-B can be used in place of ESW-M5A7-B unless otherwise specified. 20、stability of a spring manufactured under this specification shall be such that no detrimental change in free height or number of coils shall occur when spring is heated to 200 C for 2 h in a free state, except hot set springs. 3.12 SURFACE CONDITION The wire shall be uniform in quality and in hardness, and shall not be wavy nor crooked. The surface as received shall be free from rust and excessive scale and be free from serious seams and deep scratches which will materially affect the quality of the finished product.
