2、CONTENT OF SOLUBLE OILS AND DRAW COMPOUNDS Application This test method is used to determine the pigment content of soluble oils or draw compounds. Apparatus Required Analytical Balance Precision +/- 0.1 mg Centrifuge Separatory Funnel 500 mL Oven Mechanical convection; capable of maintaining 105 +/

3、- 2 C. The above apparatus is available from any reputable laboratory equipment supply house. Materials Required Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade; CAUTION: Low flash point Petroleum Ether Reagent grade; CAUTION: Low flash point Distilled or Deionized Water 10 ppm max total dissolved solids (ASTM D 18

4、88) Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. 5、EST METHOD AJ 110-01 Page 2 of 2 Copyright 2001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Procedure 1. Weigh 5 - 7 g of samples into a tared centrifuge tube. 2. Add 50 mL isopropyl alcohol and 50 mL petroleum ether to the sample in the centrifuge tube. 3. Shake centrifuge tube to disperse the sample. 4. Centr

6、ifuge for 15 minutes at 3000 RPM. 5. Pour liquid portion into a 500 mL separatory funnel. 6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 using 25 mL portions of each solvent instead of 50 mL. Usually three separate extractions are required. 7. The extractions are made until all soluble material is removed from the pig

7、ment. 8. Dry centrifuge tube at 105 C to constant weight. % Pigment = Difference in Weight x 100 Sample Weight Notes: 1. Normally, a clear cut separation is obtained in the centrifuge. 2. If insoluble matter should be found in the separatory funnel, it must be recovered by filtration and added to th

8、e amount found in the centrifuge tube. 3. If filtration is necessary, all soluble matter must be washed from the filter paper prior to drying and reweighing. Isopropyl alcohol and petroleum ether are used for the wash solution. 4. To the separatory funnel containing the isopropyl alcohol and petrole

9、um ether solution, add sufficient distilled water to make a 50 % isopropyl alcohol/water mixture. 5. Shake well and invert the funnel to relieve internal pressure. 6. After all pressure is relieved, allow the funnel to stand until two distinct layers of material separate. 7. The separated layers are

10、 then ready for extractions as given in the procedures under FLTM AJ 108-01 (“Determination of Soaps, Emulsifiers and Wetting Agents in Soluble Oils and Draw Compounds“) and FLTM AJ 109-01 (“Determination of Recovered Unsaponified Saponifiables and Nonsaponifiables in Soluble Oils and Draw Compounds

11、“). 8. Pigment may be determined by a filtration method if necessary (e.g., pigment does not centrifuge or a significant quality remains dispersed in the alcohol-water ether interface). Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
