2、sistance of production paints to aeration. An open container of paint is revolved at a 45 angle at 15 rpm for a specified time. As the container revolves, the paint travels up one side of the container and down the other, always seeking the lowest point of gravity. This action simulates aeration of
3、the paint in a production dip tank. Apparatus Required Aeration Machine An instrument such as shown in Figure 1 which will rotate containers of paint at a 45 angle and 15 rpm is required for this test. Source: Gardner Laboratory, Inc. 5、of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Reduce the paint sample to the viscosity designated by the material standard, using the specified solvent. See FLTM BI 111-01 for deter
6、mination of viscosity. 2. Add 150 mL of the reduced paint sample to a pint can, cover, and place in one of the receptacles of the aeration machine. 7、by the material standard. At specified intervals, remove the sample from the aeration machine, add specified solvent to bring the sample back to original 150 mL volume and determine viscosity. 4. Report any increase in viscosity beyond the limits designated by the material standard as failure of the paint sample. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities. Figure 1
