2、e is used to test for corrosion of metal by fire-resistant hydraulic fluids. Apparatus Required (See Figure 1) Beaker 1000 mL tall form Pyrex beaker without pouring spout. VWR Catalog No. 13930-140 or equivalent. Flask Round bottom flask (approximately 100 to 250 mL, VWR Catalog No. 29126-339 or equ
3、ivalent. Flask is to sit into the top of the beaker to serve as a condenser. Two Hole Stopper Glass Tubing Rubber Hose Hot Plate Capable of maintaining +/- 3 C. VWR Catalog No. 33922-757 or equivalent. Materials Required Methyl Alcohol Caution: Low flash point, refer to Fire Control Bulletin No. 18.

Test Strips Steel (SAE 1020), ASTM A 126 gray cast iron, ASTM B 36 alloy 4 brass, ASTM B 152 type DHP copper and 5052-H34 alloy aluminum (25 x 100 x 6 mm). Refer

Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for
6、not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Prepare test strips as described in FLTM BJ 106-01 (MC). 2. tand the test strips on their 25 mm edge around the bottom of the beaker so that there is no metal to metal contact between th
7、e test strips. 3. Add sufficient hydraulic fluid (neat/full strength) to cover approximately two-thirds of each of the test strips. 4. Place a round flask, which will be continuously replenished with circulating cold tap water (approximately 10 - 15 C) into the top of the beaker to act as a condense
8、r and heat the hydraulic fluid to 71 +/- 3 C. (Refer to Figure 1.) Maintain this temperature for 120 hours. 5. Remove the test strips, rinse in distilled water and then rinse in alcohol, then blow dry. 6. Examine and report as required by the applicable Manufacturing Standard any evidence of corrosi
9、on on the test specimens resulting from the liquid or vapor phase of the hydraulic fluid. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly.
