Cockman Application This method is used to determine the resistance to abrasion of woven or knitte

2、d textile fabrics and other trim materials by placing the test specimen over a rubber inflated diaphragm under controlled pressure and rubbing it against a specified abradant. The procedure also includes a method of testing the abrasion resistance of high metallic welts. Apparatus and Materials Requ

3、ired Wear Tester The apparatus (see sketch) shall consist of a motor driven reciprocating table to which is attached a rotating clamp and rubber diaphragm, and a weighted and counterbalanced flat plate which holds the abradant over the test specimen. Individual specifications for various parts of th

5、r. Reciprocating Table The table holding the clamp and diaphragm shall be mechanically driven with a reciprocal motion of 125 +/- 5 double strokes per minute of 25 mm stroke length. Rotating Clamp The clamp shall be provided with a pawl and ratchet or other mechanical device which will rotate the cl

6、amp one revolution for every 50 - 100 double strokes of the table. Copynght02001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BN 108-01 Rubber Diaphragm The rubber diaphragm shall be 108 mm in diameter and have a thickness of 0.5 mm minimum and 1.0 mm maximum. When the 6500 mm2 clamped

7、 area is inflated by a pressure of 7 kPa the elevation of the diaphragm shall be from 12 - 25 mm. The strain distribution in the diaphragm must be uniform so that when inflated without the specimen, it assumes the shape of a section of a sphere. The rubber diaphragm used in the test shall be purchas

8、ed without the metal contact in the center. No contact pin is used to shut off the instrument in this test as the specimen is abraded for a given number of cycles rather than to complete destruction. Clamp The specimen shall be mounted in a circular clamp over a rubber diaphragm by means of a clampi

9、ng ring and a tightening collar. The circular opening of the clamping ring shall be 91.4 +/- 0.12 mm. The height from the surface of the clamped specimen to the upper edge of the tightening collar must not exceed 9.5 mm. The clamping area of the body of the clamp and the ring shall be approximately

10、120 mm in diameter, having gripping surfaces to prevent slipping of the specimen and leakage of air pressure during the test. Air Pressure Means shall be provided for supplying air pressure to the body of the clamp so that the pressure under the diaphragm can be controlled between O - 40 kPa with an

11、 accuracy of +/- 0.4 kPa. Abradants The abradants described below shall be mounted on a plate which is rigidly supported by a double lever parallelogram so as to provide for free movement in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the reciprocating specimen clamp. le abradant plate assembly shall

12、be well balanced so that a vertical load of O - 25 N can be maintained by means of dead weights. 14、efeld, Germany Recorder Means shall be provided for indicating diaphragm pressure, inflation height of the specimen, and the number of abrasion cycles (1 cycle = 1 double stroke). Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmo

15、sphere of 23 +/- 2 “C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure Method A - Textiles 1. Place the test specimen over the rubber diaphragm in a smooth condition and clamp without distortion. 2. Pl

16、ace the abradant paper on the abradant plate under just sufficient tension to hold the abradant smooth. 3. Adjust the air pressure under the diaphragm to 21 kPa and place a 9 N load on the abradant plate unless otherwise required by the relevant material specification. 4. Set the machine for multidi

17、rectional abrasion, turn the counter to zero and start the machine. 5. Abrade he specimen for the number of cycles specified by the relevant material specification. During test remove any pills of matted fibers interfering with proper contact between the specimen and abradant if they cause a marked

18、vibration of the abradant plate. 6. Before examining, remove loose matted fibers by means of suction. 19、ial specification. Note: If the specimen slips in the clamps or the air pressure does not remain constant during the test, or an irregular wear pattern is obtained, such as individual measurements shall be disregarded and the determination repeated on another specimen of the material. Method B - Tex

20、tiles 1. Method C - High Metallic Welts Same as Method A except use the # 10 Cotton Duck Cloth Abradant. Preparation of Test Specimens Cut two adjacent 75 mm specimens from one section of the welt and another two adjacent specimens from a different section of the welt. To ensure that vinyl welt is o

21、f constant quality over the entire area, testing should be conducted in pairs. The first specimen of each pair tested on one side and the second specimen of each pair on the opposite side. 1. Staple a 75 mm section of the welt to the center of a 11 O mm Mounting Fabric. Use three staples, one on eac

22、h end and one in the center of the portion of the welt. 2. Place the assembly over the rubber diaphragm and clamp without distortion. 3. Install the abradant paper on the abradant plate under just sufficient tension to hold the abradant smooth. 4. Adjust the air pressure under the diaphragm to 21 kP

23、a and place a 9 N load on the abradant plate unless otherwise designated by the relevant material specification. 5. Set the machine for multidirectional abrasion, turn the counter to zero and start the machine. 6. Abrade the specimens for the number of cycles specified by the relevant material speci

24、fication. Evaluation Examine the specimens for the effect of abrasion and report as required by the relevant material specification. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
