2、This procedure describes a method for determining the moisture content of nylon resins having moisture contents in the range of 0.04 to 2.5 %. This method is applicable to nylon molding powders in the form of 1/8 inch cubes and to fabricated nylon articles from which chips approximately this same si

3、ze may be cut. This procedure, which depends on the volatilization of moisture, should be used only where it has been determined that the presence of plasticizers, fillers, lubricants or other materials added to the base nylon will not interfere with the determination. Unless test data indicates tha

4、t these added materials do not interfere with the procedure, it is recommended that moisture determinations with this method be restricted to Type 6 nylons only. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 2

9、4 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Turn heater block on and temperature to reach equilibrium at 240 +/- 2 C. 2. Carefully clean the syringe cylinder and piston with a lintless cloth to remove all lint or dirt particles. 3. If sample is

Weigh out sample on balance (a) 10 +/- 0.2 g where moisture content is suspected of being in the .05 - .4 % range. A small tube or other similar device should be used to allow the oil to flow down the wall so that any particles remaining on the wall will be washed down. Attach the tubing to the discharge end of the syringe, using the standard fitting. Place free end of tubing in the oil reservoir and

14、 slowly withdraw the piston to suck sufficient oil into the syringe to cover the sample with a 5 or 10 mm layer of oil. 9. Invert the syringe (discharge end up) and remove the tubing and the standard fitting. Rotate and work the piston up and down a small amount to dislodge all bubbles trapped betwe

Continue to insert the piston slowly, wiping off excess oil, until the piston nearly touches the sample. Cap the s

Record the reading on the piston at the lip of the syringe for the initial point. 13. Record time and temperature. 1

17、4. Place the syringe in the appropriate well in the heater block. 15. After 45 minutes, record the reading on the piston at the lip of the syringe for the final point. The analysis is now completed. 16. Using gloves and tongs, remove the syringe to a rack or beaker and allow to cool. Remove closure
