2、ibes the procedure for thermal cycling electroplated plastic parts to determine the effect of such cycling on plate adhesion. Apparatus Required Oven Mechanical convection ove n which shall be of adequate size to hold the parts to be tested and capable of heating a load of plated plastics parts to t
3、he “high heat“ temperature specified by the applicable Engineering Material Specifications from 23 +/ - 2 C within one h and be abl e to maintain the temperature. The air circulation should be able to be controlled to permit a consistent rate of heating of the parts. The unit shall be equipped with
4、a temperature chart recorder. Freezer Shall be a circulating air type of adequate size to hold the parts to be tested and capable of cooling a load of plated plastic parts to the “cold temperature“ specified by the applicable Engineering Material Specification from 23 +/ - 2 C within one h and be ab

7、ve different adhesion characteristics. Store in the original package in a dry, dark location. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material condit ioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior

Procedure One sample part which is the same as the parts being teste d or which represents the largest part cross - section tha
9、t is to be tested shall have a thermocouple inserted into a cavity or hole in the part to permit a temperature indication of the interior of the part during the following test cycle. The thermocouple shall be connected to a continuous recorder. 1. The parts to be tested shall be at 23 +/ - 2 C for a
10、t least one h prior to initiating testing. 2. Place the parts into the oven unmounted. The oven shall be at the high heat temperature specified by the a pplicable Engineering Material Specification at the time loading is commenced. 3. Record the date and time the cycle was initiated and the name(s),
11、 part number(s), lot number(s), if applicable, and the number of parts being tested. 4. The parts shall be at the high heat temperature specified by the applicable Engineering Material Specification for 1 h minimum. Note: The starting time begins when the part has actually reached the specified temp
12、erature. 5. The parts shall be at 23 +/ - 2 C for 1 h minimum . 6. The parts shall be at the cold temperature specified by the applicable Engineering Material Specification for 1 h minimum. 7. The parts shall be held at 23 +/ - 2 C for 1 h minimum. 8. A corrosion test may be conducted at this time i
13、f specified by the applicable Engineering Material Specification. 9. Examine parts for blisters and cracks and report as specified in the applicable Engineering Material Specification. 10. If specified in the applicable Engineering Material Specification, a tape test u sing 3M No. 898 tape may be em
14、ployed over areas that may blister and over scribe lines cut through the plating as follows: Scribe two parallel lines 2 mm apart through the plating to the substrate. Apply adhesion tape using firm finger pressure to i nsure contact with the part surface. Within 90 +/ - 30 s of application, remove
15、tape by pulling back rapidly (do not jerk) at as close to an angle of 180 degrees to the panel as possible. 11. The test (steps 2 through 10) should be repeated for the numb er of complete cycles specified in the Engineering Material Specification. 12. Report any plate separation as per the applicable Engineering Material Specification. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
