、Application This procedure is used to measure the resistance to splitting and delamination of Kraft paper - lined polystyrene foam core fiberboard when folded 180 degrees along a scribed line. Apparatus Required Carbon Cutter Stanley cutter or equivalent. Device for Making Score (i.e., Fold) Lines .
、 Table - mounted scoring device - (Preferred) (Refer to Figure 1) or . Steel rod 100 mm long with one rounded end (3.2 mm radius) Board Flat Soft Wood (900 x 300 x 13 mm) Pencils Sharp No. 2 or No. 3 hardness pencils. Knife Blades To fit Stanley carbon cutter or equivalent. Conditioning and Test Con
、ditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a con trolled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure Sample Preparation 1. Select a pa
、nel board that is free from defects. Cut approximately 200 mm off each end of the board to obtain fresh, straight CMD (across machine direction) edges for testing. 6、 the specimen has not been damaged by pressure while being cut. A freshly cut foam edg e is required for this test. 2. Mark off the defect - free CMD ends (refer to Figure 2) with a pencil and a straight edge. The maximum and minimum board width of CMD sides to be tested shall be 1650 mm and 1140 mm
、, respectively. 3. Place the freshly - cut f oam edge into the scoring mechanism and score the compression line with sufficient pressure to bring the scoring edge in contact with the 2.03 mm stops (Figure 1) (Preferred Method). OR Using the 3.2 mm radius metal rod scriber, score a line along the 19
、m m line “A“ with just sufficient pressure to indent the Kraft paper without puncturing the paper. 4. Commence making cuts at all “B“ lines through the fiberboard using the carbon cutter with a sharp blade (Refer to Figure 2). . Hold the knife at about a 4 5 to 60 degree angle (blade cutting edge to
、 fiberboard surface). . When making the cuts, first penetrate through the fiberboard with the blades point at the intersection of line “A“ and line “B“. . After penetrating through the fiberboard with the blade s point, pull the blade slowly along line “B“ with enough force to cut through the board.
、 (Repeat the cut; if necessary.) Testing 5. After all the cuts have been made along the CMD ends, place the prepared specimen on a flat surface with the score line facing up. 6. Slowly apply uniform pressure, using the palm of the hand to fold each flap upward 180 degrees toward the score line, in a
、s flat and smooth a manner as possible. Each flap is to be folded only once. Evaluation 7. Examine the cut CMD ends of the board for splits. Note: Foam splitting is defined as a visible split, 6.35 mm or more in length, parallel to the CMD of the board. 8. Sum the total length of all splits. 9. Divi
、de the sum of the split lengths by twice the CMD width (mm) of the bo ard and multiply the result by 100 to obtain the percentage of splitting in the tabs. combined length of splits x 100 = % splitting in tabs 2 x CMD width of board 10. Failure of the fiberboard shall be defined in the applicable En
