2、orrosion resistant properties of coolants, cutting fluids and radiator water soluble anti - rusts. Apparatus Required Steel Panels The steel panels used in this test are 2 x 3 x .036 - .042 inch L.C.O.H. steel body stock with a hole drilled in the center of one end for suspending the panel from a gl

3、ass hook. The panels should be cleaned with a suitable solvent to remove grease or soil and then sandblasted. The panels should be handled only by hooks or forceps after sandblasting as fingerprints will promote rusting. Cast Iron Chips The chips for this test should be freshly drilled from a clean

4、sample of cast iron. Humidity Cabinet A humidity cabinet maintained at 110 F and ap proximately 100 % relative humidity is required for cycling the steel panels. Mechanical Mixer A motor - driven laboratory mixer with a beater similar to one commonly used in most food mixers except that only one bea

5、ter is used. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Prepare a mixture of 25 parts of the test sample and 500 parts of water (having the same hardness as that used for mixing emulsions in the shop) at 72 +/ - 5 F

7、 and agitate for five minutes at approximat ely 1300 rpm using one beater. 2. Obtain a standard approved sample of the coolant and mix as in Step No. 1. Note: An approved sample is one which is in use in production and may be obtained from stock. 3. Immerse two sandblasted steel panels in the te st

8、sample and two similar panels in the approved sample of coolant. 4. Hang the panels on a glass hook away from corrosive fumes until dry. 5. Place the panels in a humidity cabinet for 16 h. 6. Remove the panels and compare with those immersed in the a pproved sample of coolant. Any rusting over and a

9、bove those dipped in the approved sample is cause for rejection. Resistance to Rusting - Cast Iron Chips 1. Mix a test sample of the coolant and one of an approved sample as in Step No. 1 under Resistance to Rusting - Steel Panels. 2. Immerse approximately 10 g of freshly drilled cast iron chips in

10、each solution. 3. Filter through a coarse filter paper. 4. Spread the papers and chips out on a screen and place over a beaker of water. 5. Cover with a bel l jar or another beaker for two hours. 6. Chips immersed in the test sample should show no more rusting than those which were immersed in the approved sample. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handle d properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
