2、edure is used to determine the flammability characteristics of sealers when exposed to a spot welding cycle as described in this test. Equipment Required Spot Welder A standard single point press type welder having a low inertia head shall be used. Adjustments shall be made to obtain the following w
3、eld schedule: Electrode force 2500 N Weld time 21 cycles Secondary current 12,500 amperes Hold time 0 cycles Welding rate 20 welds per minute Welding Electrodes 2 Ford Standard WC-1A26B electrode caps which have a 6.4 mm diameter welding face and a 45 truncated cone. Test Panels Test panels shall be
4、 of 1.0 mm cold rolled, low carbon steel. 5 test panels, each consisting of a combination of one piece 38 mm x 460 mm and one piece 16 mm x 460 mm shall be required. All panels shall be clean and free from burrs or ragged edges that might cause localized heating at the edges of the test panel. Condi
5、tioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure Preparation of Test Panels Gun Application Prepare five test panel assemblies with a 6.4 +/- 0.8 mm bead of sealer as shown in Figure 1A. Spray or Brush Application Spray a 0.25 mm layer of material on the surface of th
7、e 38 mm x 460 mm test panel and lay the 16 mm x 460 mm test panel on the sprayed surface as shown in Figure 1B. Welding Test Welding shall commence within 5 minutes of application of sealer to the test panels. Utilizing the specified weld schedule, 17 spot welds starting 25 mm from end shall be plac
8、ed 25 mm on centers on the center line of the test panel assembly at a rate of 20 welds per minute. See Figure 2A. At the completion of the first 17 spot welds, immediately return to 13 mm from the starting end of the panel and place 17 additional spot welds on 25 mm centers midway between the previ
9、ous spot welds. See Figure 2B. Acceptance Requirements As the result of the above weld test procedure conducted on the 5 prepared panels, the sealer adjacent to the spot welds may ignite. If a sealer ignites, the number of seconds burning occurs is to be determined per the relative Engineering Speci
10、fication. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly.
