Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 %
、relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BV 127-01 Page 2 of 3 Copyright 2000, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Procedure A. Test Specimen Preparation 1. Before applying sealant to the threads
、 of the plugs, both plugs and tees must be cleaned using appropriate solvent and allowed to cool to 23 +/- 2 C. Store them in an atmosphere of low humidity desiccator for 30 minutes. 2. Remove pipe plugs and tees from the desiccator and arrange them for the assembly of 3 tees per batch of sealant te
、sted. Hand tighten the plugs into the tees to run out any burrs. This will also threadmate the plugs to its corresponding tee joint. 3. With a waterproof marker, label each tee by the identification number of the product undergoing this test. Similarly, mark each plug and its corresponding tee joint
、. For example, the plugs of the 1st tee should be marked “A“ and “B“. The plugs corresponding joint on the tee is also marked “A“ and “B“. Repeat this for the next 2 tees of the batch tested as C and D, E and F. 4. Store all the plugged tees in the desiccator. 5. Mark weigh pans with the product I.D
、. number, the size of the plug and letter that correlates to the plugs. B. Product Preparation 1. Place the contained sealant in a water bath with a temperature of 23 +/- 2 C. Monitor the temperature of the product until it achieves that temperature. 2. Turn on the oven. Set the temperature for 68 C
、. C. Sealant Application 1. Remove the sealant from the water bath. Remove the plug tees from the desiccator, disassemble the plugs from the joints and place them in the designated weigh pans. 2. Sealant is applied uniformly using an applicator brush to the 2nd through 6th threads beginning with the
、 1st thread of entry of the male fitting of each test joint. The average height of sealant should reach the top of the thread crown (major diameter). It should be made certain that the sealant has completely wet the thread roots. 3. Insuring that the oven is 68 C, place the weigh pan containing the
、coated plugs into the oven for 30 minutes. 4. Remove the plugs from the oven and allow them to cool to 23 +/- 2 C in the desiccator. Examine the cooled plugs to assure that the sealant has dried. 12、 Specimen Assembly 1. The coated and dried pipe plugs are assembled to the pipe tees to a condition of 15 N-m or torque. Use the torque wrench to achieve the accurate amount of torque. 2. Assemble 3 pipe tees per batch tested. 3. Assemble the tee to the adapter connected to the nitrogen tank hose. E
、. Sealant Test 1. Pressurize the assembled pipe tee to 830 kPa. 2. Immediately after pressuring the pipe tees, submerge the assembly in water at 23 +/- 2 C and check for leakage. Agitate the test specimen to release any air bubbles due to surface tension on the test fixture. 3. The test period to de
、termine leakage shall be defined as 10 seconds. Record the results. Note: Leakage is defined as large bubble formation and/or bubble flow at the point where the coated pipe plugs have been assembled. 4. Upon completion of the initial test, dry the test fixture and disassemble. Reassemble to a torque
、 of 15 N-mm and disassemble and repeat 3 more times without pressurization. 5. Upon completion of the 4th reassembly, repressurize as in step 1. Submerge the assembly in water, check for leakage and record the results after 10 seconds. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
