、o determine the weld-through ability of primers and sealers by direct spot welding. Apparatus Required Spot Welding Equipment Stationary, 80 KVA with ignition control arrangement or equivalent. Test Fixture Refer to Figure 4. Tensile Testing Equipment Capable of pulling specimens at a rate of 10 mm/
、minute. Mechanical Convection Oven Capable of maintaining a temperature of 100 +/- 2 C. Materials Required Test Panels Steel body skin panels prepared in accordance with FLTM BZ 150-11 (Heavy Grade) unless otherwise required by the applicable Engineering Material Specification. Type A - 20 panels -
、300 x 300 x 0.85 mm in size. Type B - 22 panels - 600 x 50 x 0.85 mm in size. Type C - 22 panels - 100 x 25 x 0.85 mm in size. To eliminate electrical shorts, test panels must be carefully deburred. Electrodes As currently specified for production operation. Note: A new set of electrodes must be use

Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidi
、ty for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. The closed container of primer or sealant shall be conditioned for 24 h minimum at 23 +/- 2 C prior to application. 2. Prepare 20 test panels of Type A, B, and C by applying a sin
、gle coat of the material under test. The coating thickness must be as specified in the applicable Engineering Material Specification. Do not coat the remaining four panels. 3. Condition the panels as required by the applicable Engineering Material Specification for: a) 1 h at 23 +/- 2 C, or b) 3 day
、s at 23 +/- 2 C, or c) 10 minutes at 23 +/- 2 C and then 5 minutes at 100 +/- 2 C. Place the coated panels of each type together as shown in Figures 1, 2, and 3. This provides 10 test assemblies of each type. By placing the remaining uncoated panels of each type together, two assemblies for control
、purposes are obtained. 4. Adjust the controls of the spot welding equipment to give the following conditions: Secondary current - 9,000 amps Squeeze time - 12 cycles Weld time - 8 cycles Hold time - 20 cycles minimum Cold time - 12 cycles Electrode pressure - 2.3 kN Diameter of Weld Nugget - 6 mm 5.
、 Weld the assemblies in accordance with the following program: (I) Place 500 spot welds on a type A assembly (Refer to Figure 1). (II) Place 6 spot welds on a type B assembly and then peel off using the fixture and determine spot weld diameter (Refer to Figure 2). (III) Place one spot weld on a type
、 C assembly and then determine the shear strength of the weld using the tensile machine at a pull rate of 10 mm/minute (refer to Figure 3). 12、ated from the total number of spot welds required by the applicable Engineering Material Specification. Only one pair of electrodes may be used to produce the specified number of spot welds. 7. Take the two control assemblies, weld as above to determine: 1. Spot weld diameter. 2. Shear strength. Not
、e: These must be welded during the first program. Evaluation The test assemblies are evaluated as follows: 1. Type “A“ assemblies are not evaluated. (Electrode Conditioning Cycle). 2. Type “B“ assemblies - weld diameter must not decrease below 4.5 mm unless otherwise specified by the applicable Engi
、neering Material Specification. 3. Type “C“ assemblies - must retain a minimum of 80 % shear strength as compared with the control sample. Note: As these evaluations are performed after each individual weld program the test is discontinued if the values quoted in Paragraphs 2 and 3 are not obtained.
